This part of the body is important as it collects the air that is used in the flow through ventilation system.

To quote from the Nissan 'Factory' workshop manual.

"In this body ventilation system, air is taken from the air intake on the cowl top and ventilator on the front door, and exhausted from the slip shape air outlets on the rear pillar [body side for coupes] & side window"

Oh well, what would the factory know, they only made the car, then wrote the manual.

Contrary to the misinformation supplied by the unknowing, 'scuttle' is an English word, derived from the Latin "scutella", just like the English word 'cowl' [koul] which is derived from the Latin "cuculla" or "cuccullus"
but what would Webster know, they just do dictionaries.

Both scuttle & cowl would be perfectly acceptable to all but the most contrary.

And the A10-A12 Nissan Workshop Manual refers to the A10-A12 as OHC on page EL-2

..probably fixed in a later Errata.

Being that everyone in this thread thus far is in Australia. We would use the Australian term and not try and be American.
The Australian term for this body panel is "scuttle panel" as it is refered to in workshop manual #87 produced in Australia by scientific publications.

Nah, I couldn't find that error in my 1971 edition of the A10-A12 service manual.

Wow you just cant accept that Tyrie was in first with the correct name and therefore takes all the glory.

You now refer to it as the ventilator and Im begining to wonder if Vixen didnt get in first and call it the Plenume Chamber, Would you have?

In Australia I speak Australian English. How many English words are derived from Latin?

That last line leaves me puzzled from your responses as always.
Why is it in this particular case, 2 names are acceptable?
Please make note of your previous ramblings on subjects like:
Shortened Diffs - According to you it can only be refered to as a narrowed diff. But NSW RTA Guidelines to Light Vehicle Modifications, refers to it as a shortened diff.

Then there is your rambleing of what diff actually refers to - Diff centre, third member. Pumpkin, housing etc etc,

What about your UTE ramblings Its not a ute its a pickup, a ute is australian fixed body blah blah blah. But NSW RTA refers to my Toyota Hilux as a UTE and writes this on the registration papers. But to you the hilux can only be refered to as a Pickup (another american term ) But nissan felt quite ok to refer to the b120 as a pickup? But to you a ute can be a pickup but a pickup cant be a ute.

What gives?
Where do you get all these textbooks from?
Why is it that things can only be refered to by your terms only but can then also be changed to fit in with your terms?
What does Websters give as a reference to Jerkoff?
What does Websters give as a reference to Inferiority Complex?

matbighat Posted on: 2007/5/9 6:05
hubcaps are really the dust/grease caps that press into the hub, although both hubcaps and wheelcovers might have served the same porpoise 100 years ago

sorry, but whenever i hear scuttle, i think of "the captain had no choice but to scuttle her"

thus i urge you aussies to drop the queen's scuttle and adopt the uncle sam's cowl

can't we all just get along and have a fosters? (harry's fav)
