swirl ports heads didn't come until 81-82 and have casting #'s of H95 and H99
what yours does have is exhaust air injection, the thermostat housing has a provision for a one way valve and the head has a hole in it next to the water jacket that leads to the exhaust ports. not good or bad, just a pain to work with if you want to port it.
what it did was inject air into the exhaust stream to allow a more complete burn of fuel in the exhaust manifold, kinda like having an air pump without actually having one.

Those things that I can see in the two inlet ports on the left are valve guides & a part of the inlet valve stem.

That item in the left side welch plug hole, is that a block heater? It seems to have a spade type electrical fitting.

rgrinder, thanks for explaining the casting numbers. It seems none of us knew what they meant until now. This should be a big help in identifying parts.

Ah, I see it now ... I wonder what that is too.

I also notice that the water temperature switch on the front side of head was moved from the right side (as 1971-1973 A12) to left side starting with the 1974 engines.

This thing has got me going too. If you are going to dismantle this engine completely, then I would be most gratefull of you would carefully remove this item & let us know what's on the inside. It would seem to be either some sort of temperarure sensor, which air conditioners don't usually use, or perhaps it's a block heater, & thats an item I would like to know about.
Block heaters are cool, in a metaphoric sense you understand, & I would like to have one for my engine.
