I just found out that the "E" wire and bolt on the alternator broke off and was corroded, I took the alternator off now and will drill it out and put new ones.
its a good time to replace the brush as it near the hole marking
What else should I look out for while its dismantled.
I also have a '80 round headlight B310 Sunny A12 alternator... am I better off swapping them? just need to change my wiring right? not sure if its a Bosch or hitachi unit as its at my bros house getting it delivered soon :)
do sunny alternators have internal or external regulator?

just an idea but my tacjho did this in the coupe on its most recent electrical misadventure, turned out to be 3 blown fuses (at the same time) in the fuse box.
the tacho did this just prior to the fuses dying.... it appears for me t o be a fuse problem but check if your b310 alternatr has an internal regulator or not. if it does and you are running the stock external regulator... this could create issues similar to your problems.
