Your opinions required please

Hey there guys and gals, I' looking for your opinions on this touchy subject. I have a 1200 sitting in my shed that I cant sell (not that i've tried real hard). I was looking at it last night with a beer in hand and thought about lopping the roof off. This would be done properly with engineers report etc, etc. Ive done the search on this sight to find out what people think, all i managed to find was a handfull of people saying that its wrong? I would love more opinions and maybe some decent pics if anyones got any? Cheers. Adam. P.S. It is a two door sedan.

the car is a unibody. the roof is a big part of its structural integrety. you would most certainly want to instal chasis braces or tubing from front to back beside the stock chasis/body rail. awsome idea

Hey casper17000, doing it properly over here would require an engineers report which would include body rigidity tests etc. so seam welding and structural braces are important. cheers. Adam.

but a 2 door sedan in aus.... hmmm
I havent seen many aftermarket convertable conversions which look good. each to their own, but a 2 door is fairly rare

yes, you would need all rhose to do it right, but just to do it safly is what im talking about. you chop the top off your car and it might not change anything(best case scenario) or you could go over a bump to hard and tweak your whole cars allignment(worst case scenario)
it would be worth it to at least attach a coupple of peices of tubbing to the chasis rails.

leave it alone.
if you want a convertible - buy one, don't make one.

Well, since you asked.
There seems to be less than 10 of these two door sedans in Australia, & you want to make that small number even less by one. It's not something I would do, & I wouldn't recomend that anyone else do it either. If you really want a convertible, then think about doing it to a Coupe as these are much more common, & save the rare two door. Quote: gx1200 wrote

I dont know what kind of 1200 it is,
but the fact that you are asking opinions, tells me you are only thinking of doing it for the sale value. Its your money. Dont count your chickens till they hatch. You can view topic.
