#1 Toyota 2T engine
Nexus Posted on: 2006/3/8 13:06
I've been thinking of replacing the tired old 4 speed tranny in my 1200 ute with a Celica 5 speed and dropping a bigger engine in than the stock A12 while I'm at it.

I have an old Toyota 2T 1600cc engine sitting in the shed.

Has anyone tried slotting a 2T into a 1200?

I haven't heard of anybody doing it , but the Idea did cross my mind a couple of times , cause the 2tc & 3tc engines are more popular around here than the A14.

I was looking at write-offs at an auction yesterday and thought the 22re-c looked pretty good, 2.4L efi. Engine mounts looked kinda similar too.

I figured that it would save me the conversion kit for the Celica 5 speed if I had the engine to go with it.

Although I guess there will be some other mods to be made: engine mounts, exhaust, radiator.

a 2TC would wake a 1200 up quite nicely.

tons of performance parts for them in the states too.

plus - if it saves the cost of a conversion kit then go for it!

no doubt someone will whinge about "crossbreeding" now...
