This is silly. Brake fade has NOTHING to do with the presence, or otherwise of a tanden master cylinder or booster. If you try hard enough you can get brake fade in tandem cylinder, vacuum boosted, disc brake systems. Twin tandem by-pass method? What the hell is that? Not discovering the correct delivery system? Delivery of what? What patent laws of what 'yesteryear' cars & trucks are you refering to? Where are you geting this rubbish from? Some detail here would be very helpfull. Are you actually a trained mechanic?

Firstly I dont know why these pics are on my computer but here they are;
![]() ![]() It aint hard to get that spring out bro. You say eight pieces but I only count six. Maybe you dont have a 1000. It aint hard to disassemble the spring. The spring pictured by itself has had a leaf flipped by someone at some point in time. No hi-teck tools required to strip it. Oxy to heat the tabs and fold them back. (can still be done a couple of times cold if thats your style of work) 2 g-clamps if you scared, but the datsun spring just sit inside each other - no clamping required. And you need a couple of spanners to undo the centre bolt. Not too difficult. I have assembled leafsprings before that need to be compressed to get together. I have used a vice, or 2 g-clamps and by far the easiest method is to use a length of threaded rod with 2 nuts and simply tighten it through the centre where the bolt goes. Once tight, put in vice, undo rod and refit bolt. No biggy. Its not really a concern for me, more just curiosity. You say there are no trades men with knowledge but yet you are a mechanic and have done and know how to do it all. Why dont you yourself do these things. I would stop listening to those that only read text books and actually just do the #### yourself. If something aint right, fix it, modify it, make it work or fit something that will do the correct job. Simple. Just drive the daam thing.

..school holidays aren't still on, are they?
I was going to ignore this thread, but it annoyed me too much. I don't know how you've lasted 49 posts. Many of here, have pulled apart and rebuilt EVERY bit of our Datsuns ourselves. We aren't like a lot of mechanics who spend 90% of the time doing basic service like replacing fuel filters, oil filters and brake pads. Anyone that's rebuilt a car, knows its 3 times harder than assembling it from new. There are people on this site that do 'know it all'.. I have to say that you are not one of them. Everything you've posted could have come from owning 3 or 4 issues of Wheels magazines from between 1969 and 1971. Pull your head in.

This just gets sillier by the minute.
Brake fade has got everything to do with the brake itself & nothing to do with the master cylinder or a booster. The tandem cylinder is intended to be a safety item, not a brake performance item & an inline brake pressure bias valve would work just as well in a single circuit system. A booster is used to reduce pedal pressure, not to overcome brake fade. The Datsun 1000 & 1200 drum brakes are more than good enough when in good serviceable gondition & used as the manufacturer originally intended. They were low in cost & perfectly adequate for the intended task, & if you were a real mechanic, you would know that. As for makers not being allowed to copy others designs, you covered it yourself. Many of these systems were vendor supplied & sometimes vendor designed, or designed in conjunction with the carmaker The VENDORS owned many of these patents & were in the business of SELLING their products to any carmaker that would buy their systems or component, not using patents to prevent their use. Thats why we see Hitachi carbs, & Mitsubishi Electric or Hitachi electrical components in these cars, & if you were a real mechanic, you would know that too. Now I have been a mechanic for only forty years, & a Datsun 1000 owner & enthusiast for the last twenty six years, so there is still lots for me to learn, but you still have me bushed with the 'twin tandem by-pass' stuff. For a start, there is only one tandem [or dual circuit] cylinder [not twin, or two of them] & the whole thing is generally refered to as a 'Dual circuit' system. I'm just wondering what is actually 'by-passed' in this system of yours. I have studied the factory original dual circuit brake system on my 1000 coupe & in 1200 models, & i'm blowed if I can find anything that was by-passed. I had thought that drum brakes used 'wheel cylinders' while the term 'slave cylinder' was normally reserved for things like clutch actuating cylinders in hydraulic clutch applications. If you were a real mechanic, i'm sure that you would have known all of this. Anyway, most of us are ever ready to help, but if you keep up this rubbish, then the enthusiasm to help dies real fast. I wish you good fortune in your project & I know we would all dearly love to see a picture of it.
