Reverse flow coolant

Has any one done a mod like this?
I read about it the other day. Its where the cool water is pumped in the top of the head(hotest part) towards the bottom of the cylinder(not so hot part) thus cooling the engine more efficently.

Does the a-series fow from the top to the bottom in standard form?

is it worth doing this mod?(you obviously need a electric water pump)
thought?

Do you plan to move your thermostat?
Stop and think about how heat rises.
Think about how an engine creates heat.
Then think about what a radiator does.

If there was a practical benefit to this, then carmakers would have done it decades ago.

I'm not sure when they started, but Chevy's been doing it for a while now and I'd doubt they're the only ones, but might be.

You are right it would seem about the Chevys, so I wonder why, after several years, that no-one else seems to have done it too.
Surely someone else, some other car maker, has thought of this at sometime in the last hundred years of automotive manufacture, yet chosen not to go with this concept. After all, it's not rocket science & it seems to have some merit at first glance, yet no-one else has done it.

probably keeps the head warmer more consistently, sort of ugly thing they'd do for emissions.

I am just wondering at this stage. you would have to have a pretty trick motor to consider doing this. I guess the thermostat would work reasonably if you reversed it?

I agree it really is a lame thing to say.
I thought you were a so called hotrodder (even if rodders have told me otherwise )
Might I mention Mazda and the rotary. The list can go on.
Correct me if I am wrong - you are paying to have your kb10 built with an engine Nissan never chose to fit from factory to a 1000. So why do it then? Surely nissan would of done it if it was worthwhile. You are fitting brakes to your kb10 that nissan never thought were required.
The list can go on.
You claim that the kb10 is an exceptional car and that everyone knows they want one. Why would anyone want one if even you yourself feel they should be modified from the factory product?
Really Lame

The thermostat whether reversed or not, in the factory position it wont work very well if the coolant flow through the engine is reversed.
Think about it.
You wanna pump cool coolant into the top of the engine. The thermostat opens when the coolant is hot.
Now pump cool coolant over it and what will happen? Do you think the coolant will flow through the engine very well?
Put the thermostat on the engine outlet and it will be a different story.

Are there any benefits? I dont know, but I do think that many car manufacturers have not adopted this method for a reason.
That reason is the same basic one that nissan used when they build the 1000, the 1200, the 1600 etc. Its called cost.
It's going to cost more to design engine pipework to do this reversed flow setup. It would take longer pipes, more engine bay room etc etc.

If you want to try this setup. I say go for it. #### the haters and dont be a sheep like the rest of them.
Trying something and failing, earns more respect then never attempting and following the rest of the pack.

the advantage is that more heat is extracted from the metal parts as there is a greater temp difference.

Not worth doing it yer self...just get a bigger radiator if needed.
