i think ive got to get new bushes for my leafs to stop so much sideways movement but is there anyother ways to hold it from moving, i was reading a site of another guys who had a CA18DE and had used a gemini pan-hard rod to help

what do you guys reckon about the movement, ive not thought about it much but am wondering what you guys think?

I know a guy who is running a holden panhard rod in his 1200. he just want to a holden racing suplier and they gave him one to fit. i dont know which model it is off. hes only run it twice since the install but he said it makes a big difference. hes races circuit not rally so im not sure if u want to achieve the same thing? if u do install one make sure to bolt it to something solid coz ive hurd of them buckling boot floors.

I can't see the point in fitting a panhard rod to a leaf spring setup. If the spring bushes are in good condition and the spring hangers aren't flimsy or too long then I can't see how you can get sideways movement in the diff. The reason why people who do fit panhard rods to a rear leaf setup have problems with them buckling mounts is because the panhard rod is fighting against the springs. This puts a huge amount of stress on all of the mounting points for no gain....so what is the point??

Hey, that'd be my old car

Don't advertise that I use Gemini parts!
I still feel quite shameful about that....

I had to use the panhard rod (Which required shortening. Even with nolathane bushes and tight springs it still moved more than 15mm side to side under load. I had big and wide 205 tires which only had 5-10mm of clearance.

All of my cars in future will only have 195 tires max on the front and rear..Gives plenty of clearance. The panhard rod made some strange extra noises, but it did the job. Be creative and put a Watts linkage on. Get it from a late model Ford Falcon Sedan, and shorten it. All late model Aussie Nissan cars have IRS. So that's a good enough excuse to use ALIEN parts. Plus the Falcon Watts linkages are nice.

Chris.

leaf spring rear ends allow huge ranges of lateral, fore-aft movement, and torsional movements. Any control arm you can fit under class rules is a very good idea IMHO.

I fitted brand new urethane bushes to the spring eyes and can still move the leafs springs laterally by hand to fit the marginally wider mounts on the Corolla diff housing.

I have a locked diff. And it is really scarry to see what happens if you stop the car during a walking pace turn on a grippy surface like concrete or bitumen. Doesn't even have to be a sharp turn. Looks like you must have broken a main leaf or U shackles (or something major anyway), but it's simply wind-up.
