Can someone tell me all about the Jatco 3-speed? The main thing id like to know it what sort of torque converter does it run. How do you go about removing the gearbox? I cant see any plates underneath to allow access to unbolt the converter from the flex plate. I really want to know how you go about removing the box. (without oil spill)

The little plate with the 10mm bolts that bolts to the front of the gearbox comes off, then there is 10mm bolts holding the t/c onto the flex plate, remove them then it will come off with the box and no mess!

One of these things can be the best tool that you ever buy, & this particular grubby but complete example is quite cheap, & will be available to some lucky 1200 owner in a very short while. Questions answered much more quickly than waiting on a reply.

I know i keep meaning to buy one but never get around to it. It all usually works out too well and i forget about getting a manual. Between dad, this site and myself it always gets figured out. Just seems to be the rarer pieces of knowledge come from the manual. (ie Autos, theres nothing on here or the net about the Jatco)

I know that there is a full manual Valve Body available for the Jatco 3N71B-L4N71B some company in sydney makes them...
$1000 don't under estimate the 3N71A-3N71B-4N71B and the L4N71B they were fitted in everything from Datsun 1000's to Patrols! they are strong gearboxes! I did many a reverse to firsts in "the Defect" before foolishly removing it for a F4W60L 4 speed... on the(auto) pedal box there is a switch - disconnect the wires to said switch - the wires that went to that switch hook up to a switch mounted on the dash - instant POWER/ECONOMY mode! I wish I had known about that BEFORE the 4 speed conversion! You can view topic.
