#1 120Y / 210 coupe louvers
MisterCarey Posted on: 2006/6/17 21:56
hi, i just scored a set of rear-window louvers from ebay for my 1980 210 hatchback; however, i'm having some trouble putting it on. it looks like the backets have to slide under the seal, but i'm not sure how to do that, or if prying them up in the first place is even a good idea.

does anyone having any experience installing rear-window louvers? if pictures would help, i'll see if i can post some.

thanks!

it really slides under the rubber, you'll need some putty knives, thin ones, be prepared for some bloody knuckles.

surprisingly once i got mine on they're very firmly in place.

you have to get bracket under window rubber and hook tab against glass.

What year car is it? I recently bought some NOS louvers for my '79. They came with very detailed installation instructions and drawings. Let me know if this would be useful and I could take photos and post here.

i already had mine scanned, since i scan the instructions for things as soon as i get them so if they get lost i'll still have a copy...

right click - save as 500KB pdf

Those aren't the same as mine. Mine are Nissan parts. I have the instructions for the '79 year model ones and also the '80 ones. The Nissan ones also have a pair of latches to keep it locked down. BTW www.oldcarandtruckparts.com still has the NOS Nissan ones for sale with hardware :) I think mine was around $90 plus shipping.

edit just took another look and yours also has the latches. probably very similar parts.

thanks a lot, guys. mine's actually 1980, but i got them from someone claiming that they were for 1979; but the hatches are the same, so that was okay.

hmm i'll take a look on that site for other parts, but the ones i got off of ebay (admittedly missing screws and instructions) were for a $10 US bid and $40 US shipping, so that's an okay deal.

i don't quite get the 'hinges' that it says are on the brackets at the top, but i get the general idea. basically, just pry up the rubber and slide the bracket under it.

thanks again!

if they're like mine, the stainless steel metal things are the parts that go under the window rubber, at the top there is a tab with a hole in it that is suposed to have a nylon grommet and that has a screw that goes in to the louver. those are "hinges"

a little thread lock on those screws might be good, i've had them back out over time.
