Hey All,
Looking into engine terms for building a tough CA18DET.
Not sure what Shot Peened is, Can anyone explain it to me please?
Also come across a few others for crank treatment but can't recalll what they were.
I know the basic like Forged Pistons etc.
Any info would be great.
Cheers
Jason

Sure thing.

Shot Peening:
Is done the same as sand blasting, but with shot which is cast-steel(real small balls). So you blast the metal and by doing so you get it all to run the same way which gives you strength.

It is done to rods, rockers ect.

I'm not really sure what you want to know, but I'll just keep typing.

Total seal rings:(2 piece, Gapless rings)
These are piston rings, but on both compression rings it has a smaller rings that sits in a grove because the ring must have a gap this smaller ring gives you a better seal.So more HP.

Billet parts:
These are parts made from one piece of metal not cast so the part is super strong.Everything can be done billet these day rod, pistons, blocks heads. These parts also cost a ton.

Head gasket O ringed:
This is where you O ring the blocks decked surface. You cut a circular grooves which are in between your gasket and your bore. You then put in a copper O ring this helps with comperssion and head sealing.

Photos help.

Shot peening is blasting the surface of a metal part in order to remove minor irregularities in the surface and to also harden the surface. the process also stress relieves the item making it less prone to failure. Nitriding is another process used to harden internal components. this is done by heating the item in an atmosphere of nitrogen based gas which bonds to the surface of the component making a layer a few microns thick , effectively hardening the surface. Heat treatment is a process when the item it heated to a specific temp. and baked, allowing the molecular structure of the item 'relax', thus removing internal tension and allowing the grain of metal in the item to align, creating more strength, through less tension. It sounds crazy but heating your rods in the oven and allowing them to cool slowly can be of benefit!l There are more processes that involve various means of achieving similar results, such as component freezing, but these aren't as common as the above and cost more. Hope this has helped out

Looks very much like a normal headgasket there champ.
Why would you want fat o-rings that are even wider between cylinders? The idea is for the skinny o-rings to bite into the gasket, not just compress it.
I also never heard of using copper for o-rings for a engine.

Here are pics of my block which shows actual O-rings

There is no point, as you obviously have no idea to start with.

I make a point of telling wankers that they are wankers.
You still dont seem to be able to show any response to your incorrect info previously posted. Enough Said

back on subject! what does a knife edged crank mean? and what does it mean when you read about someone having their head cc'd? is it true you can have parts X-rayed for tiny cracks? and what is the difference between those high silicon pistons and those weird named hyperturetic or hypertechtic or however they are spelled pistons?
