DATSUN1300UTE

I may know whee there is one. I found a wrecking yard that has MANY old Datsun parts. There was a 1300 motor and trans in the back of one of the rigs. I will check if you want me to. I am in the US of A

I dont remember if the manifolds were there or not.

Mike

I think you should just drop the L16 or L20 engine rather than rebuilding the J13 as it will probably end up cheaper as well.
If you want something different your 521 is quite unique, the B series 1200 seems easier to have as a project as there's heaps of them around and lots of parts that you can use. its much lighter as well.
In my opinion 521 looks cool its kinda like the 510 series but in ute form

L16 is way too hard for what should be a very basic swap.

either rebuild the J13 (yes parts are still out there) with a weber, cam and exhaust, source a J15 and do the same (shouldn;t be too hard if you have your eyes open) or swap it for an A14 with the above mentioned mods.

the J series are quite torquey engines and very well suited to a little bit of hotting up for a neat daily driver.

alternatively a CA18DE with stock computer and manual would go really well, but they're getting a bit hard to find even if they are still really cheap. a half cut would be the way to go here, you should be able to pick one up for around $900 without brakes or panels and would have everything you need for the conversion.

What motor would fit my J13 gearbox and with little modding as possible?

If you're gonna replace the motor off another car its best to replace the gearbox with the one attached to the motor of your choice.
