What's common between 1342 and 1234 is the 3&4 so maybe 1&2 are wrong, but you say 1 is TDC on the compression stroke. Are you sure? Love to see a photo, even better, a movie. You would need to have a different crank & cam shaft to all others.

In australia the firing order is anti-clockwise. So starting with #1 plug wire count off 1243. Or clockwise, 1243.

lacks torque in 3rd / 4th gear no miss firing or backfire just slow on pick up??
That's how all Datsun trucks with J13 engine go.

1342 is 1243 backwards!!!!

The dizzy runs the other opposite way to the crank! You have it set up right, you are just reading it backwards!

yep it does. it purrs during idle but lacks torque in 3rd / 4th gear no miss firing or backfire just slow on pick up??
It's a truck, ... with a low performance engine that is designed to haul a load, not haul arse, so this sounds about right.

Do you have all the tune up specs? It might not be a rocket ship, but there's no reason for it to be be any slower than it needs necessary. If you give it the once over in the tappet department, then set the dwell & the timing. Make sure that both the mechanical & vacuum advance are working as they should & it will run as good as it ever will without additional mechanical work.
