The reason why datsun 5 speeds are so expensive, apart from not many being made is that fans of older sports cars that use an a-series motor as a transplant, such as mg's and morris'(not really a sports car) prefer a 5 speed, as most would. An mg box would probably set you back a grand anyway.

your crack about titanium was ok, i can deal with that.
But when someone who I dont know wants to step up and have the balls to call me a cock head, then i do have a real problem and i will get real peed off. If someone said that to your face what would you do? I know what id do.

Thanks again for your expert opinions.
Saves me bumping.
Quick questions-
How many of you experts have actually seen a datsun 5 speed box in the flesh?
How many have you actually seen 4 sale, Gone to inspect and bought?
How many have you owned?
Or are you just talking about what a 'mate' has told you or from someone elses story.
Id bet most people have never actually seen one apart from photos.

i've got a dogleg style 60l 5 speed..
and im pretty sure there arn't that many left..
stick it up on ebay and see what the public are prepared to pay.. it won't be too far from what u r asking..

most of u would love to have this gearbox for their a series...

so why does everyone voice their opinion on the 5 speed's value in this guys for sale thread...

if u are all that worried.. make up a NEW topic in the main forum about the ridiculous prices datsun parts are getting these days and we can all cry together......

keep it clean
datsun1200.com is for datsun lovers ..not haters...

Give the man a break.
If you are in the market for one of these, & feel that the price is more than you can afford, or is above market value, then make what you feel is a realistic offer after getting a bit of background first.

Be prepared to adjust your offer a little, & if you can't do a deal, say 'thanks for the opportunity, & please call me if you change your mind' then make sure that he has your contact details. Most sellers prefer to deal with serious buyers, even if they drive a hard bargain.
Bagging someone because he has offered up something with a price that allows him room to move is just plain silly, after all, everybody adds a bit to the asking price of their car to allow for some haggling don't they, ... then why should this be any different?

If you don't want it, then don't say anything, just go & read another thread & be happy.

Of course, these gearboxes are MUCH less expensive in the US, so just think of the savings to be made by booking a flight from Australia to the US to buy one.

Market forces drive the price, ... supply & demand, it's as simple as that.

- 2 so far, 1 60A standard 5-Speed that is in my Coupe (from a B310) & a 63A Dog leg (waiting to be put in my sedan)

- I agree, and yes they sell for mad money here in the USA ($400-600 on eBay), so I'd say either hold on to your 5-speed or don't let it go unless you get what you're after!!

Either way BEST OF LUCK!!

BTW - there is one on eBay now.

Thankyou. I knew it would be a matter of time before someone with some sense would speak up.
Suppose as the saying goes- AN EMPTY VESSEL MAKES THE MOST NOISE!

Cheers
