Hi Folks!

Sort of my first post on here. In the process of building a draw thru setup as well.

Topgear what are you going to do concerning the carbon seal on the turb? Are you not going to bother and see how it goes? Or are you going to get it rebuilt?

R:)

Here is a question for everyone... I have a std exhaust manifold off an A15 which is larger than the std A12... Should I use the larger one or stick with the A12 one for the purpose of the project??

There's a lot of theory around this, but if you picture this scenario, it might help you a bit. Any hot gas wants to expand, the moment you let it out into a larger area, that's exactly what it will do, and it will loose a lot of density. Now, if you keep it in the same size hole it was in before, the only place it can expand to is down and out of the manifold. You now keep the velocity and density of the gas, which will help you spin the turbo up much faster.

However, don't think by reducing the diameter you'll amplify the effect, that'll simply choke the engine, and you'll start having pumping loses again.

My advice would be to rather use the A12 manifold, but dowel match it to the head and smooth it out as much as possible.

Wasnt sure what you where talking about initially till I read my initial quote.

Good call, makes sense and seems like a good excuse to use the std one... I want to use as much of the std items as possible to see what can be achieved, thanks for your comment.

I will get a photo of the turbo in the next day or so...

I wasnt going to worry about the turbo seal as it is a budget style project... I could easily get it done but want to keep it a simple mod...

I still have my first A series J pipe setup in a box under the house. It was totally ballistic - left my 116rwbhp L18 1200 for dead - like it was standing still!

with all this talk about turbo A series lately, I'm tempted to revive it to show what power you can get reliably from a cheap and nasty setup - might see if I can find a $3-400 120Y or something

I know its a bit late in the piece but import LD20t have a T2 on them

diesiel L series 4 cylinder just for a thought for future projects

I was looking into runing a A12 with A15 head (low comp) and a CT12 toyota turbo

With a cams restrictor it would allow me to run a standard bore A12 in under two liter class

but one i started working out a cost of rebuilding the A12 I soured on the idea but this thread has got me thinking again

Good Luck with it, should be great

What turbo did you run on it and was it laggy??

Definately do it, after out dragging an EVO9 and overtaking an R33 GTS-t its creates a lot intrigue... Especially if you saw what my little car looks like...
