So now the CA18DET project starts - I have a fairly basic question

I'm looking at doing a few trial fits of the motor and am looking for some mounting points so I can control the drop into the engine bay fairly easy.

I've found 3 good spots but nothing really on the intake side of the motor.

Here's what I'm thinking so far - I don't like the bolt on the back of the timing cover much....but struggling for other ideas at the moment.

I normally run a chain around one of the plenum's steel support brackets above the injectors.

I also drop the crossmember and put the gearbox onto the engine under the car, to stop scratching the life out of the firewall.

Cheers,
Chris

Nice info thanks.

Does anyone think bolting into the back of the timing cover is risky or could damage it? (First pic) It's only a M6 bolt (10mm head) so I was a little worried.

I guess it's a good point to attach the gearbox from below - as long as I can lift the car up high enough it shouldn't be a problem.

i agree with chris the supports above the injectors but im lazy and bolted the box to the engine and cut the radiator support 1 or 2 mates ensure no scratches (just remember no alcohol until after its in)

When you say rear inlet manifold do you mean the bolt on the back of the plenum chamber?

Bottom left corner of the last photo in my original post...
