i think somebody is playing a trick on you converted, what makes you think there is detergent in optimax?mabye the spark plugs "carbonise" due to the oil your engine is consuming.

for the record bp ultimate is the best, cleanest and most consistent 98 octane on the market.
more people use it straight up or with additive in street racing circles than any other.

standard unleaded should be avoided at all costs.it barely meets australian standards for octane and quality.it causes damage to fuel injectors and clogs them up.
if you want to see what is in unleaded, get one litre in a clear container and leave it open in the sun untill it has evaporated, and see what is left in the container.

vortex 98 only cuase its on the way home from work, other wise mobil synergy 8000 or bp ultimate (same refinary in melbourne anyway)..... i like the mobil but vortex is a close second.

I stay away from shell, they changed the 98 octane formula again and the 100ron is crap for carbys as it has ethanol (not recomended for carby cars)

In my stock 1200 coupe I run whatever comes out of the unleaded pump at whatever service station is nearby. I give it a shot of lead replacement juice when I fill it as the valve seats in stock 1200's are quoted as being made of 'Cast Iron' [Gregories No. 87, page 7] & I choose not to risk it.

My owners manual says it needs 90 octane or better, & it runs as sweet as you could wish for when tuned to factory specs.

Mmmmmm, low cost fuel, Datsun saves yet again.
