Yep!

does a 1600 use the 60 series?

I don't think the 1600s are 56A, 60A or 63A. They are something totally different

Have you considered a Dellow Automotive Celica gearbox adaptor?

I cant see why the 60 series 5 speed on the L series wouldnt be interchangeable with the internals of the 60 series sunny a series they looks almost identical.

However the mystery continues....

The bottom one looks exactly the same as my 60 series 4 speed.

Ok so I guess the question is - what car did the 60 series L block box come out of?

Because, I don't see why the Aseries 60 series bellhousing wouldn't fit either (and I happen to have one )

Check THIS LINK

Your're right according to this - late model 1600's had them.

I'm betting they are as rare as the A series ones though...

The 60L 5-speed came behind A14s. The L is a dogleg shift pattern. Used in 1979 models and maybe early 1980 models.

It is possible the "late model 510" used them as that web page indicates. "late model 510" is the USA model 1978-1982 "Datsun 510" or Nissan chassis code HL510, which appears to a variation of A10. They used an L16 engine.
