Dattodude's update.

Hi Guys (and occasional girl),
I fitted the coilovers to my car yesterday, and mounted the camber plates diagonally. And I'm very happy to report this has fixed the stability issues that my car had. I didnt have the time to do any big tests, nor did I do a wheel alignment after setting the camber plates as diagonally backward/inward as a I could to increase both castor and camber. The car now feel like a normal car to drive, which is a big thing. It used to hunt around under brakes and feel unstable on the road. Clearance on the guards is also improved quite a bit, even though I still plan to fit some 185/45x15 or 195/45x15 tyres soon. My new cams should arrive today, So I'll fit them on the weekend, and get the lifter shims ordered. Then I'll get the car dyno tuned for all the new engine bits I've added. Still to go: 1. trim carpet and shifter surround 2. order stiffer rear springs 3. get new front guards flared/painted 4. Get car polished/de-nibbed (never has been) 5. get heater core leak fixed. 6. trim the boot (trunk). Man, doing up a datto is hard work.

Great to hear it's still moving - the worst is when you Datto project stalls for months when you get distracted by other stuff!
What cams are you putting in?

It really sucks when work stalls, and its worse when its simple things like the wrong offset wheels, or other mickey mouse stuff like that. Keep going dude and enjoy the car builders life of scraped knuckles and black thumbs. Where are you getting your cams from, I am having trouble getting some for my CA18DE (rocking horse poo I think)

Cams are Tomei, I couldn't easily find anything else available, unless regound cams from less reputable places.
Finally bought the higher lift 270x9.25mm solid cams. These are to upgrade/replace the mistakenly bought 270x8.8mm hydraulic cams (which will probably be up for sale soon). Nothing wrong with the cams..I just found it hard to look at the $1000 worth of solid lifters I'd already bought, just sitting on the shelf at home. As for DE cams, yes you'd might need to go turbo cams and use camwheels to tune the intake/exhaust 'overlap' to suit the DE. Never really heard of anyone doing it, but might work better than using just stock cams. I'd guess the CA18DE piston crown clearances might be tighter, so you wouldn't be running high lift. The cams arrived via EMS mail from Japan today. Woohoo. So I'll be busy this weekend. Although getting the lifter shims may take a week to source, I also got the 'measuring shims' from Tomei. Which was probably a fantastic waste of money. Ah well, Hyper Lemon JUN Supra drifts in the Datto will make it worth it in the end. Chris You can view topic.
