i dont think youll qualify as an 'ICV'. will you meet any of this criteria???
try reading up a bit on it, check out your local traffic authority website about what needs to be done to have a compliant car, this is from a nsw rta website regarding icv's:
your buddies are dreamers too if they reckon ittl be a easy job with only a few firewall mods.

Im gunna have to be negative as well.
There is no way on earth(ie none, zero, nada, nought) that any engineer in his right mind, would even consider okaying such a product for road use.
Such a vehicle would require submission of detailed engineer drawings BEFORE you even picked up a spanner or gas axe.
THEN it may or may not be approved to be built by the relevant governing authority, reguardless of how 'safe' it may be.
I think you would be destroying another good car by even attempting such an effort.
Stick to something straight forward, if you want some power. A ca18det or sr20 will be heaps of power for someone of your driving experience. THEN if you dont wrap yourself around a tree, think about something a little more ambitious.
It sounds like you are listening to the wrong people or smoking too much hooch. Only a tosser would reckon a rb26dett into a 1200 ute would be a good idea.
A 350 chev would be easier. Not that that would be a great idea as a daily driver either.

There was an RB26 twin turbo powered ute built in Japan about 5 years back, it was a dedicated drag car. As an engineer I would suggest starting with a more straight forward project or perhaps put the RB in a bigger car . They just about fall into Silvias and would make a far more tolerable daily driver. To handle the torque you will need a full chassis and once you've done that you could drop any body you like on it, but certing it will be expensive.

I think sterlingmac's comment about putting a rb26dett into a silva makes alot of sense. For a 9 second Datsun 1200 use a 13b turbo, but forget about daily driven :)

As for size B210dat posted some pics on this site a little while back from a carshow in the area and there was a nice 120y with and rb 26 in it. That would be less of a hassle for that space side of things

I've been into modifying Dattos longer than you've been alive young fella I might even be older than your dad (now that is scarey).

I agree that rb26det + datto 1200 ute = $50,000+.

It CANNOT be registered in Australia, and you will end up in jail if you are caught driving it on a public road.

Go for a more feasable engine for your 1200. You will gain experience and later on you will be able to deal with bigger things.
If you are bent on a RB26D engine, look for a larger car.
You can have a fast and cool 1200 with other engines. Plus the RB26D engine is just too much power for the weight of the ute. You are going to seriously injure yourself in that car.....it is not just an engine, you need infrastructure, wheels, tires, brakes, axles, and weight to put that power on the road......
Take a breath and think about it. You are going to waste a lot of money and you will end up with a very unconfortable car, no leg room, and a scary ride

There is a very fast 240z coupe a friend of mine has running an RB26DETT - runs just about the quickest time at Sandown of anybody. It generally wins outright at any meet it is at.

Much better all round car than trying to put that motor in a 1200 - handling would be a big issue....

My two cents..........

You can get a RB20DET in a 120Y with little comparitive fuss and it's legal!

So get the RB20 in, stroked, forgies etc & you can have an RB25 without the major body mod's.

Would be one hell of a sleeper!
