i can get some exhuast heat wrap for next to nothing

and was thinking since the trusty old rotator isnt crossflow, might be useful to keep some heat away from my weber

would also upgrade the appearance of my exhaust a little as no type of heat paint cant actually stand the heat!

but i have heard that the heat wrap can hold moisture prematurely rusting your exhaust... so im not real keen on that idea

any opinions/experiences?

I use it. temps are cooler. I have had mine on about 5 yeaars without any problems.
If you are after something that will last, I would go for ceramic coating.

Go the heat wrap ,I use it on my pit bke exhaust keeps it heeps cool .I used galvanised fencing wiire to tie it on as the wire doesnt corode .dont panic about the exhaust rusting any moisture in the wrap material will be dried out by exhaust heat staight away ...........

It was too effective on a race A12- we ended up with icing problems in the inlet manifold (twin dellorts), but no first hand probs with rusty exhaust. However a mechanic I used to work with had a set of extractors on his 351 rust out in about 3 years after he wrapped them..... probably ok if you don't drive in the rain.

for a daily no for your rotor ute, yes... you need to keep as much heat out of the bay as possible.
also you dont store your car in the open so wont be a big issue for the rusting

Not sure about your side of the world, but over here practically every company that sells header wrap also sells a sealing product. You spray it on after you wrap and it's supposed to prevent rusting.

If you're still worried about corrosion, you might also want to paint the headers with a proper header paint. It should be a a silica-ceramic coating and you have to following the curing directions closely otherwise it will probably come off. The curing directions involve heating and cooling cycles with increasing temp with each cycle. It can be done with the header on the car.

I had some heat wrap on my old 351, spilt some brake fluid on it and they cought fire. Just something to watch out for, cause they are fiberous, they are absorbant. True water will just evaporate but watch out for other liquids. But they didnt seem to rust though.

I was told that in order to wrapp the headers/extractors w/o rusting the primaries the pipes got to be ceramic coated.
Regular metal would rust prematurely .
