Dankie kululadotgroen, dit help baie.

What transmission and diff is required (and will fit) along with the SR20DET (this does seem to be a more popular engine than the CA18DET)?
I have seen some very quick ute's running with 4A's, but that is not a 100% real Nissan in the end now is it?

Probably I am going to be boooed! for what I am going to say, but if I was to make a transplant into any of my Dattos...I would go for the very uncommon...I would go for a 20B 3 rotor Mazda Rotary......

Those engines make a ton of torque, and the sound is just out of this world provided a nice muffler and ......... sizewise and weight wise it is a good choice for a small Datto like the Champ.

I hear that all the fastest Datsuns in ZA are running the Mazda piston engine. Is that still true?

Mmmm, the fastest 1400 UTE is running a turbs Mazda piston engine. It's that blue one of Louis Lima, and it does consistent sub 9 second runs. However, the rest of the spots(2nd,3rd,4th etc...) are taken up mostly by turboe'd 4A-GZE's and some other turboe'd Mazda pistons. The odd turbs rotary shows up every now and then

But at least it's Japanese...

There are so many different SR20DET models around (red-top, silver-top, black-top). Does anyone know if the engine numbers are related to the tappet cover colour?

If so, can anyone provide some engine number information to make my search easier?

Translation : What type of Mazda engine do these guys use.

Arno, apparently most of them use the ones with the golden tappet cover, which is a 2L 16V unit. It is also in some cases bored and/or stroked to 2.3L. I've also heard of the 2.2L 16V Mazda units being used.

On one of your earlier questions, it would be best to use the Toyota 21R gearbox with a conversion bellhousing, which all up goes for about R3000 for the CA18/SR20. That's much easier than to find a decent Nissan gearbox, which is still in good nick. The Nissan unit is also more than likely going to cost you twice as much as the Toyota stuff.

PS. Try not to post questions in Afrikaans, as some members may find it offensive. It's ok to do in the PM's. I've been made out to be a terrorist in other non Datsun1200 forums because of this...

Thanks kululadotgroen.

I know Afrikaans frustrates people, just wanted to see the reactions (but I will not do it again).

I have been phoning around for SR20's and the guys do not know which model engine they have. According to Wikipedia.org, there are about 4 different models (depending on donour vehicle age and type). I want to make sure I buy what I have in mind, so that is why asked regarding the engine numbers. The same will go for the Mazda engines, what engine number is related to the gold tappet cover and what mods are needed to get more power from it? (sorry guys, I know this is not Nissan related and do appologise).

Afrikaans would offend someone? Probably not here. We get Portuguese often, and sometimes some Aussie slang...

Will get a picture or two of some of the Mazda engined 1200's around, and put that up there, as well as some facts and figures.
