I think "Boricua" ( friendly term which identifies Puerto Ricans in the world.) meant to say..."Datsun wins in the US"
The competion was among cars, not against the US.
Puerto Ricans are well represented in competition, specially GT and vintage modified classes. Not surprised with their strong show. PR's are to US competition scene what probably New Zelanders are to the Australian competition scene.
The Toyota Starlet was one model of the very last generation RWD cars from Japan Toyota wise. With the Corolla, both are considered great vehicles to modify because of the RWD configuration.
After this early 80s period, the avalange of cheap econo FWD cars rolled over. Nowadays RWD together with AWD is reserved for the top of the line vehicles. Economy vehicles will remain FWD because of the savings in manufacturing.
If any manufacturer had the vision to build a RWD economy car, it would conquer the market.
Any pictures of the Datsun 210 boricua???
