hi evry1 im doin up a 1200 ute and i wood like to shave the tailgate but i stilll want it to open i was just wondering wat sort of latch i need on the inside e.g:commodore ute? or sumthing like that nd how hard is it? ne help wood be much appreciated THANX APPSY1

Just use a pair of cheap gate latches/toilet door latches.

They are about $5 from Bunnings.

If you wanna be creative then you could use one from another car but i reckon it will be a head ####.

get one out of another ute from the wreckers, mount it in the 1200 tailgate, drill holes for the rods to go into and cut the rods down to the right length. HQ-WB holden has been used before. Maybe even the mechanism out of a fold-down back seat

You could adapt almost anything to suit. My bet would be an early '90's Hilux latch, heaps common and quite basic.

I agree though, it could be a total head ####. Be prepared to spend alot of time stuffing around.
