I was told that you can use the bluey axels for this conversion, which saves the change of the bits onto the 1200 axels. As long as you have the H165 diff, which is what all utes should have. Is this true??
YES and NO
It would work but not for very long.
In short no you cant, If you cut the axle shorter you lose the length of spline that you just cut off. (This means, you would lose valuable surface area where the splines and spider gears would interchange). The axle cant be re-splined longer as the axle tapers down undersize where the new spline would need to be.
This only applies when you use a 1200 ute diff housing. if you are using the C20 vanette housing you can get away with using the bluebird axles as the track is wider, which eliminates the need the shorten the axles.
I can speak from expeience, as i have this setup on my coupe.
