The 3-speed auto is tough and reliable. The problem is it is slower than a manual transmission car. The trans is heaver, plus uses more hp, and has less gearing range. Although some say the difference isn't too noticeable. The automatic cars weigh 75 lbs more (34 kgs).

Sunny = B-body type. see Datsun 1200, Sunny and B110 in the FAQ section.

All Datsun 1200s are really Sunnys. That's the family name, but it's not used in all countries.

If you see a "Sunny" advertised in Australia it's probably the B310 (1979-1981) Sunny. This looks a lot like the 1200, but is wider and longer.

For a 1200 coupe or sedan, the auto cars have a bigger tunnel. So the auto may not fit in your ute if it is a 4-speed ute.

Back to the automatic transmission issue, is it pooible to get these rebuilt anymore? I have one in a junkyard rescue that I didn't consider for Mini-Pearl (the car I'm building for my mom) because I was told I'd never be able to get it rebuilt. Plus, what about parts availability?

well, consider it's the same tranny used in the 71-77 510, 610 and 710 bluebirds. The 73-up 620 pickup truck, the 77-? 200SX. The only difference is these use a different converter, converter housing and output shaft length. so most likely they use the exact same rebuild kit.

Hmm... that is telling about the strength. It oughta last a long time behind a small A15.

whats the difference bettween the sunny coupe and the 1200 coupe?

About 170 kgs (!) and seven years. The B310 being heavier and newer than the B110.
