How much power?

I'm new to Datto's - how much power is possible out of an A15 lump?
Reliably - as in a full season of 12 races without rebuilds on a stock crank, rods and pistons?

Try a search mate.
Dattoman_1000 had 96rwhp out of a A15 with duel DCOE40s in his race car.

With a totallly stock short block I dont even know if you would be able to do a whole season.
I think you would need to do work on the rods and crank at the very least. If you were reving it pass 6k I really do think you would break something if you are running more comp and a hotter cam.

That sounds decent - especially in a stripped out race car
I'll figure the search function out, thanks

Howzit Killer - I used to get 130KW at the wheels @7200 rpm out of a VW Golf 2litre 16V motor (2X 45 DCOE's) reliably on stock rods (and plain cast ACL aftermarket Nissan Ca20 pistons).
It was usual for it to run for the entire season without catastrophic failure. The VW blocks are visually not high tech at all . They do come with forged cranks and rods from the factory though. We'll see. I'll run it as far as it can go and keep the forum updated

cast ACL aftermarket Nissan Ca20 pistons There not really what I would call stock pistons. You can get 170flywheel HP from using a stock crank and rods but they still need work. Good Luck tell us how you get on.

The ACL pistons are stock replacement pistons for the 2lit 16v Nissan Sentra - they work great as a monster over bore in VW motors, taking the capacity up to 2080cc. ACL makes some good stuff - I'm a great fan

Point taken killer - the rods might be better off with a shot peen. A15 imports are quite cheap here (the equivalent of Aus$500) - so the plan is to see how a stock bottom end (apart from new big ends) with a 11.8:1 CR,hot cam and gasflow lasts in a race car.
If it pops halfway through the season a rethink might be in order

Hey Mustard
Where are you from? Why do you go from 2litre 16valve to 1500cc. Why not stay with the VW car and motor. they are good little racers and reliable.

Why not stay with the VW? The VW is dead my friend . I destroyed it in a end of season race in December.But...I do have an old Datsun 1200GX that came with my late Father's estate. It will be much cheaper to convert it to a racer for the local classic cars series. Building another Class A GTi Challenge car will cost at least R80K GTi Challenge becomes bloody expensive if one runs competitively - building the race motor last year cost R12000 for instance You can view topic.
