It's what makes the Datsun 1200 great!

But there is a car with even less: the most powerful car sold in the US:

- 1080 pounds (491 kilograms)
- 204 hp
- power-to-weight ratio: 5.3 to 1 (compare to Viper at about 10 to 1)
- 0-60 mph (100kph): 3.8 seconds

personally, I have problems with these 'cars'...

1) they are for hairdressers
2) they get to race against production sports cars (here anyway) which really ####s me!

They are more race car than road car with spaceframe construction, fabricated suspension systems, alloy and composite body construction, engine and driveline components from other manufacturers, no compromises to production considerations - like having a boot or glovebox, soundproofing, reasonable levels of fit and finish, less stringent compliance to ADR's (Australian Design Rules) for emissions, noise, crash testing etc... The sooner CAMS (Confederation of Aus Motorsport) come to their sences and make them run as Sports 1300s (clubmans) or open wheelers the better!

well, that's my rant for the day...

did I mention they're for hairdressers?

The Caterhams sound like a pretty nice idea.

My CA18DET 1200 datto will have ~350HP (Flywheel) and only weigh 1700 pounds..
That 4.8 Power / Weight.

The painter dude is coming around my house for a preliminary inspection of the car this Friday night.

Don't give me no girly kit car.

Chris.

Of course.. What? you thought my shell would rust away to dust ?? (It still is possible, but unlikely).

The body work is done man. It has been done since before Christmas. But 9 to 5 "real work" has gotten in the way. All of the CA18 mounts are perfected, the diff, rear crossmember and coil overs are all good to go.

So with any luck the beast will be painted in the next 2-3 months. The guy is a perfectionist. I don't mind if he takes his time. I've now got to get my interior made up. I've got originals for the upholstery trimmer to copy from. I've also got to rewire my "spare car" so that I can transplant the wiring in quickly when I get the car back from the painters. This means I'll also have to buy my engine computer soon. Woohoo I might be ready for the Adelaide Nationals in November!!

My car weighs 620kg (1364lb)
If I manage to get 180hp out of the A15 like i hope thats 7.57

If I put in that SR20DET I'm thinking of at 400rwHP then 3.41 is the magic #

That'll make it pucker up.

I spoke to the SR engine builder today. 400 rwHP is conservative he says. 500 would be closer to the mark for the car.

Are we scared yet ??

In a 1000...hell, I think I just emptied my entire large intenstine contents into my underwear..

Imagine how the car would feel at 260kmh ..Oh man..If you had the wrong body kit installed..it might take flight!!

Chris

ps. To reduce costs, He's doing as little work as possible. He's a very good painter. No good dumping a stripped car to him, and having him tell me it'll cost $10,000 to fix and spray. I'm trying to keep the cost of the respray to below AU$4000.

A $30,000 Datsun is not a "wise" investment. Unless it's a 510 SSS Coupe (1800) or an R32 GTR Skyline..

mate i am with on the R32GTR the best skyline

i paid $1200 for my paint job (mates rates ) it came out really good.

it must be so hard with ya datto sitting in the yard in a disabled state i remeber when i mine was off the road for 3months, they were hard days, but the wait is always worth it cause when its all finished ya cant stay out of the car

p.s imagine a RB26DETT in a datto ?? what kinda power are we talking about , it would be like straping a engine to the back of a matchbox
