Not much to report on my side of things.
After my oil haemorrhage problems on the first run i thought that would be my only problem for the day.
But apparently the engineers at toyota didn't have the mighty nissan a series in mind when they designed their T50 gearbox. Sounds like a bearing has pooed itself.
Anyway another T50 will go in and all should be sweet for the Bathurst Hillclimbs in a couple of weeks. I guess when you're talking these sorts of power figures gearboxes become a 'consumable' anyway

Nice one Aiden, the sedan is holding to the road surface like a champion, Watch out for this car to get faster and faster.

Jeff, the yellow bee goes like a rocket, the L20 sounds fantastic and now you have over steer on demand from the right foot.

Aiden gave it his all & I watched with great delight as this gutsy little car was urged ever onward to new thresholds, but when the tail started to move around when it shouldn't, Aiden very wisely brought it in.

Oil was leaking from the brass fitting in the oil pump that allows both the original idiot light & an oil pressure guage to be used, & it was reaching a tyre, which caused the unwanted tail movements. When he applied a little pressure to tighten it, this is what happened.


To learn from your misfortunes is wise, but to learn from the misfortunes of others is VERY wise. It would seem that the heavy mass of the brass fitting caused a fatigue fracture to originate from the base of one part of the cut thread [as in, not a rolled thread] It started to leak & the car was brought in before disaster struck.

If the fitting can be remotely mounted, with a light & flrxible hose from the pump to the fitting, then this problem can be avoided.

Fortunately 'The Boss' had a complete spare pump with him & this was fitted in time to have another run or two.

We can all learn something from this.

How many more Dattos are going to die using these f'd up fittings...

Two 1600s spilt oil all over the track at Wakefield in 2005 as a result of using these garbage fittings.

NOTE TO ALL: DON'T USE THESE FITTINGS!!!

Only use these fittings if attaching them to the strut tower, and running high pressure hose to the block.

All right, this will be a smaller report than my last efforts, but here goes.

The day was hot, bloody hot, & with the cloud cover keeping the heat in it drove the humidity through the roof without it actually raining. It was all I could do to keep the perspiration off the camera & off the inside of my specs.

The racing was pretty hot too but I was concentrating on the cars in the pit area. To be honest, there wasn't too much that really excited me except for our somewhat informal 'TEAME DATSUN 1200'
I was hangin' out for the Carpenter Bros. KB10, but it ultimately proved to be a no-show which was sad because both Daniel & I are keen to catch up with each other & swap a few KB10 stories.

<----First up we have the very attractive 1200 coupe of Jeff Hanson. A great lookin' ride you have there Jeff, it's no 'ar farsed effort at all. It sounded really strong & fast, but it developed an oil problem with some of it making it's way onto the suspension area.
It's just a minor development problem Jeff, & I'm sure that it's an easy fix.




















Next we see 'The Boss' in the lineup waiting his turn. The heat took its toll on many drivers, but the canteen did a roaring trade in drinks.
What's that other car doing in the racecar area, must be some damn photographers ride.



<----- This is the little car that can. Aiden's car is being steadily improved as time & money allow, & the change of wheels with a bloody good set of tyres have made a big difference. This in turn has allowed an improvemet in times, & the skill level is steadily improving. It is stored in The Boss' workshop, so it couldn't be in better hands.
Oil fitting problems were overcome, but a suicidal gearbox part spoiled the day in the end.
I think that we should all get acustomed to seeing this one as with any luck, it will be going places, .... fast.



















Next up we see The Boss at work in the office giving a bit of hurry up to some barely recogniseable P.O.S. I took this shot at full 22 power magnification as an experiment. It came out better than expected, but not as good as I wanted.


Unfortunately, I had to leave before the day was done as I had far to go & an LSD to pick up before the even longer drive home. I just gotta put aircon in my ride.

I too have had this piece break, it has something to do with the sharp area at the end of the thread & the weight of the oil senders. I also second the idea of remotely mounting the adaptor on the strut tower. 2 weekends ago i put this combination together for the l series powered sunny i have. i bought a new sender from Super Cheap for $7. I then went to Volksbarn at Pendle Hill,on Joyce St near the railway station, & bought a brass fitting half the length of this "vdo" fitting for about $20. With both pieces in hand i went to a shop who's name i can't remember,but it's behind the Hungry Jacks on Abbotts rd at Seven Hills, I think it's on Foundry Road, & he made me up some braided line & the fittings i needed for the rest of the set up for less than $70, & it wasn't a short length of braided either. so for under a $100 i might have saved myself an expensive engine rebuild. I believe this is a bargain. I'm also going to be putting this set up in the sunny sedan with the a15 i'm
building at the moment, I just have to get the engine rebuilt after i found a cam bearing had turned & restricted the oil flow to the rocker gear. So new bearings & gaskets coming right up.
