I urge all 1200 enthusiasts in Australia to get their hands on a copy of the latest Hot4s magazine No.61 and also ZOOM magazine No.30.
Hot4s features a wicked 1200 ute with an FJ20 conversion, very tidy.
ZOOM mag contains a very awsome 1200 Coupe similar to ca18det_man's. It runs a CA18DET with stock internals and turbo, and produces 140kW at the wheels and
13.6 second quarter miles.
It is a very neat car and the owner said it only cost him $4000 to do the install including labour! For more info checl out ZOOM magazine the $7 is worth it!
It just makes me want to do the same to my coupe, and I would if I had the cash and some more skills and experience.

Simon

Yeah i bought ZOOM the other week. That is a very nice 1200 but needs some engine work. Everything was stock!! But 13.6 1/4 times with a stock CA18det would
be very pleasing!

Check out the datto 240z with twin turbo toyota supra engine to. We did the 3" mandrel exhaust on it - theres a write up on it :) cya

in qld.One main difference is he runs a cat converter and unleaded fuel :( I run super with no cat hp for mine with this was 130kw at wheels. Kev is old though maybe he didnt drive
it hard enough LOL

My CA18DET 1200 is running standard everything...except boost only managed a 15,@96mph or something, so I'm keen to get an aftermarket computer, to take advantage of my bigger 200sx
turbo and Andrew's old front mounted intercooler. I have always though that mine had something wrong with it. I'm in San Jose, California this month, so I can't do it yet. I think I'm
one of only a few who have battled with the standard ECU. That's probably my main problem. When I return to Sydney I'll get it going....

Chris.

Well as I said in my original message I am all geared up now. I have to at least investigate costs and other issues at putting in a CA18DET.
Kev's car looks so good it just revved me up. The cost he mentioned of $4k for installing is that right Andrew? How much did you spend on installation? incl. suspension, brakes, etc but
not engine mods eg bigger turbo.
I think I could be easily satisfied on the performance output just running standard engine everything. I will be checking your web site closely for info and pics on your install again just
to get ideas.
I dont want to pay someone else to do everything because I have a welder and doing some of the work would be half the fun for me.
How hard were the electrics to do in your can Andrew? They just seem daunting to me.
When is the next issue of ZOOM coming out? This one with Kev's car is the first one I have bought and its a refreshing change to Hot4s.

Cheers, Simon

P.S. What are the difficulties of fitting a SR20DET vs. CA18DET, has anyone (eg. SSS Automotive, Datspeed) made conversion kits yet?
I know someone made kits for FJ20's into 1600's, what about us 1200 boys?:(

I was suprised myself when he said he did the conversion for 4 grand. I doubt that would have included his strut, brake and diff setup.

I have just forked out 550 bucks for a c210 skyline strut and honda 10" disc setup and theres alot of other bits and pieces i have allready bought. Like stanza lower controls, 120y swaybar,
landcruiser 4 spots, all new rubbers, stnza castor rods. And theres more to come like springs, shocks, 14" wheels and tyres. So it all adds up!!! This setup will cope with a Ca18det for
sure - Andrews setup is similar. So add at least another 2 grand for the front end (if u want a good setup) as 4 grand would cover the CA installation for sure.

Thats just my guess anyway. I've never done a turbo coversion myself but have helped a mate fit an FJ into a 1600 and that cost him nearly 8 grand to setup - including struts, brakes, diff,
car itself etc....

As for the SR vs CA conversions, i think theres eqaul amount of difficulty. SSS and datspeed wouldnt make anything for a 1200 as there not as popular as 1600's. But im sure making up new
mounts to suit a CA or SR isnt too hard. Just need a case of beer, an angle grinder, a few bits of steel, some measuring and a MIG.
