Newbee needs your help in a project B120 (sunny ute)

Greetings from the Philippines,

I have a nissan sunny ute (i believe it is called the B120 series)...which I am trying to restore. The unit body is slightly modified and converted to a double cab version though (so it could sit 4-5 persons). Once I have the full body repair work done (and painted) I will post a picture of it.

Meanwhile my problem is my carburator (the engine is A12 and the carb is stock which I believe is the Hitachi DCG306). I can't seem to "tame" it.

I can do a one-click start but when I do a sudden rev-up the engine would die on me. It seems that choking it (pulling the choke cable mid-way) would help on this problem but I don't think that's the rightway to do it.

Any solution for this problem is gladdly appreciated.

BTW, I am on the current project of converting the spanish Service manual that you have (I've downloaded the copy). I'll probably post it (the revised one) for further revision....cause some of the terms might not be correct.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi wildthing, I cannot wait to see pictures of your ute. Datsun calls that a "twincab", but never made a Sunny like that!

About the carb, it sounds like the accelerator pump is not working. You can check it with the engine off. Hold the choke open, and watch while opening the throttle. You should see a good squirt of fuel (use a flashlight if necessary to see it well). If you don't see this, the internal pump needs replacing.

ddgonzal,

thanks for your reply...I will try it out tomorrow. Meanwhile, I also saw your article on the Carb Adjustment....I'll check your pointers in there....update you if I got additional problems on it.

i had that problem with my hitachi..... check the fuel filter makes sure it has sufficent fuel, then check the fuel cut off solanoid, take the solanoid out and replace it without the needle and see if it still cuts off still.

also check your fuel pump
