Need to cut King Springs... help!

I have some lowered king springs in the front of my 1200 wagon but there just not low enough! That and the 1200 being so light don't help :)

So I'm about to put in a 120Y strut upgrade and as much as I dont want to, I need to cut those king springs. Does anyone know how much to cut off to get say another inch lower? Also do the A14 weigh much more than the A12s? Will it make a difference when I upgrade to the A14 on the weight? I figure the weight difference will be neglible.

Mate i really wouldnt recomend cutting springs!! Im not saying i havnt done it but Not only is it really dodgy but can be dangerous.. It upsets the handling balance of the vehicle and changes the spring rate dramatically..

Buuuut... if u really wanna cut them there is no general rule of thumb " How much to cut" just cut in small portions and take ur time..

better to go not enough than too much!!!
But personally i wouldnt be cutting perfectly good king springs.

Take it to a spring shop. Don't hack what are perfectly 'saleable' springs just for your short term gratification.

If you cut the springs, will they remain to be captured within the shock absorber travel at full droop?

There's got to be a better way..

All A-series are the same weight. Fat people don't go out and specifically buy new springs. Engine weights within 0-50kgs difference will not make a noticable difference.

I would reconsider using 120Y struts if they are going to cause you so much trouble.

But getting properly setup set of 120Y struts in 1200 shouldn't be too hard. A suspension shop should have the capability to help by winding up a set of progressive springs to suit..

I dont want to cut them believe me. I'm not trying to lower it huge amounts here either.

I've dropped the back by 2 inches. the king springs have lowered the front by about an inch. So the fronts up in the air still. I just need that wee bit more....

Just cut half a coil out of them and see how it sits, if its not enough cut another half and that should be plenty, only thing that pisses you off is having to be carefull were you jack the car from or the springs can fall loose and not locate properally. If your carefull you shouldnt have any problems, as long as there is adequate suspension travel. Ive cut the king springs in mine and no problem except it dosnt have enough suspension travel, personally i thought the king springs i got, (lowest heavy duty for stanza) were way too small and soft, they felt like standard, go the gemi springs!

well desgined springs are meant to fell like a standard ride... but kings are usually a lot stiffer and harder than stock. stock stanza springs in a 1200 shoudl feel a lot stiffer than stock 1200 springs.

every time i see this question asked i just think all the other answers are stupid/pointless

the only reason i can see that cut springs could be damgerous is if you have shocks that are too long

you know what, the same thing will happen if you fit superlows to a car.....but wait they are uncut brand new springs, yes it makes no difference...if the spring is too short its to short
just like having them compressed, they have been compressed and will stay that way....so how are they more safe than cut springs. is it coz you have wasted money on getting it done?

if you have got shocks that dont travel out more than the spring does then i can see it ever being unsafe.....but if you do then all of the above are technically illegal and unsafe

and stanza springs(standard) are fair soft, not really a noticable difference from stock
ive got half a rear 200b spring in the front of mine...wouldnt really call it soft, but then its not really that firm either
