Mikali's talk is embarrassing. That's my opinion.

PLAY NICE CHILDREN!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hey, just because some jerk comes on here and writes a bunch of crap you don't like doesen't mean you have to fight with each other.
Don't you get it? That's exactly what he is trying to do, cause problems between the members.
Instead of going at each other, you should be flooding his email with what you think of him.

I'm in the US and a 1200 fan.

Steven, you had a sedan (conservative styling, even 'boring'), not a coupe (classic sporty styling). Nonetheless I am a 2-dr sedan fan.

Datsun 1200s come from Japan and were imported to many countries. I saw one in Bellevue this month on the road, know of two others in Bellevue, one in Seattle and two in Lynnwood. All drivers. There are several beautiful ones in Portland, Oregon. Stick around and you'll see them too (most of them are in the Photo Album). There are undoubtedly more around.

Datsun 1200s good points:

- Steering radius better than almost any car (name one better ...)
- Stock handling very nice, corners fairly flat
- Easy to work one - easiest car I've ever worked on as a mechanic, including VW bug
- parts available inexpensive when new, still not bad
- Near perfect throttle response (in quality, not quantity)
- (compare to other cars of the time) brakes have very good feel no fade during hard stop and go driving
- hydraulic clutch extremely light with good feedback
- Smooth, quiet four banger
- small size lets you park anywhere
- superb fuel economy: 40mpg hwy 28 stop and heavy go. (+-10%)
- The lightest, tightest reliable ever car sold in the US. Light = potential
- Race winners. SCCA class champions more times than any other
- Drag winners, especially in TX, FLA, CA and NJ
- Favorite non-Mazda chassis for rotary engine fans
- After 30 years, the vapors are finally out of the dash. Hey, at least these dashes didn't crack like the typical american car from that era
- new parts still available. Yes, they are still selling the 1200 (now 1400)

And I can't disagree with anything Steven has said! (well, except for the "fussy" part. He didn't say a TR6 was "better"). To the outsider, why? With all its flaws, why is the 1200 so beloved? I hope you don't think I'm offending the whole club here, you all know me as a true 1200 fan. I was surprised that Steven drove one for nine years and never "got" it. Well, we can answer that, even if Steven is playing us along. My wife doesn't understand the 1200 either. So they are valid questions.

Buzzy? Yes. But put a 210 5-speed in there, and they are no longer buzzy. They weren't designed to be a long-distance cruiser, and never will be exactly comfortable on long trips, but sure can do it cheaply! I've driven from Washington to California several times. At $30 to $40 for fuel, it's far less expensive than the train or plane, or even a bus ticket!

However, as with this, most of the other bad features have a ready cure:

- Glove compartment kept falling apart. Replace with plastic one from newer B210 or 210
- Ignition switch goes bad and won't activate starter. Ive seen this happen on more than one vehicle. Fix: add relay
- Steering box over times gets somewhat loose causing 'play' in the steering wheel. Needs to be tightened up periodically
- Back window fogs up instantly in damp weather
- Throttle cable breaks after about 100,000 miles
- Clutch cylinder goes bad after 10 years. Buy a new one rather than honing and replacing seals
- fuel pump troubles - replace with electric pump
- Original Starter troubles-repeatedly with original starter. Replace with Bosch starter-never again any troubles
- Points troubles (this is true of all points ignition) - often wouldnt start on rainy days due to dust on the cap and moisture getting in the dust. Replaced with distributor coil and wiring from 1980 210 (US B310)
- Speedometer about 10% too optimistic. When it said 90mph it was probably only doing 80
- Castor rod bracket at front of frame can break under heavy use, battery acid drip.
- Poor windshield defrosting on damp days
- hoses going up to defrost vents kept falling off. Solve by replacing with plastic hoses from B210
- Bolts holding back window latch (Sedan hinged glass) fall out. Use thread locking compound
- Wing window rubber makes a loud wind noise. Solution: new rubber from various vendors
- Vent (above tunnel below dash) blows right on face and inside arm. Partially solved by covering half of outlet with duct tape.
- Trunk and front door ALWAYS leaked even when car was only nine years old and had less than 50000 miles. Solution? New rubber?
- Fatiguing during long trips-difficult to sleep as a passenger due to vibration of floor
- Engine temperature gets very warm (edging on red) on hot days or on long uphill climbs. I always took mountain passes at 60 mph. Never caused a problem but solved with B210 radiator.
- Poor highway tracking--car wandered at higher speeds. Solved with radial tires

On third thought, Steven drove a 1200 for nine years and never "got" it?

Yeah right. Near impossible. I have countless friends, relatives and associates (women and men both) who said "why?", then after one drive behind the wheel, said "oh, I see now". Even if they didn't want to go out and buy one, they got a glimmer of understanding.

Be wary of "flaming" people on the internet.

To be fair he said some things about the Datsun 1200..big deal. How many people shout out "sh$t box" on the road..plenty of them.. Solution..Ignore them. Do you have so little faith in your own opinion, that you are offended by others opinion??

Your rebukes are defamatory to him and his character. And you are lucky he doesn't live in Australia, where internet defamation suits have precedent. You might have to spend time in jail. Seriously. You need to relax. Go kick the neighbours cat or sometihng.

Chris.
