I am truely embarassed that I share the same name as this guy!

But fellas it is obvious that this guy couldn't pull one root in his 1200.
How many of us here " go the datto" atleast once a week? whether it be from male, female, young or old!
This by itself tells me that they can't be half bad!

Cheers, Datto Loving Steve.

Hey mikali and steve I dare one of you to be man enough to say sorry and then I hope the other has the balls and common respect to accept the apology and in turn also apologize. You never know it might make you feel better.

well i c that its still on how many hours now?look iam over 50 and have owned about 150 cars in my time.american, european, jap and ausie.all that matters is that all car enthusiasts stick together no matter what our preference is.world politics, environmental issues etc etc are all trying to eliminate our toys no matter if its restored, modified or a stock street hack.lets stop putting sh-t on each other and/or the cars help and work with eachother to keep it all alive.cheers gerry

I read three of the seventy some odd posts in this thread and quit. Therefore, I have no idea if any other 1200 people from the US have replied to this guy. All I have to say is, yes, there are plenty of people who collect, restore, renovate, hotrod, race and love Datsun 1200s in the US. Don't look for my name on this thread again, because I'm through with it.

this thread will never die...because i proposed valid questions....the 1200 was a japanese response to the fuel shortage in America. It was meant to be an econobox on 12" wheels, and for that I'm glad because it allowed me to commute to work, college, and over here where i live now...but to imply that this should lead to hairless hamsters and a denegration of George W. Bush..now thats preposterous. Mikali...you've breathed in way too many noxious fumes...and at least i live in a country where we use toilet paper instead of a couple of gophers in the bush. I never said i disliked the 1200...I only said that it wasn't what i thought would be collectible...and i wanted people to explain to me why they collect em. Honest to God, I haven't seen one for one hell of a long time, so you people either need to get out more, or drive them during daylight hours. I'm glad i started this thread, and like i said...i have some fond memories of the 1200, as well as some less than fond, but it remains in my mind as a monument to cheap transportation.

So much happened on this thread while I was asleep...oh my..I had to laugh at the guy who said you can still buy parts for Datsun 1200's from the dealer, and then knocked TR 6's because you couldn't. Who cares? I can get every bolt on a TR6 from aftermarket suppliers, and nobody in their right mind shops for anything at the damn dealers anyway. I remember the quick, tight, responsive steering of the 1200...it got me out of a few bad situations...but overall, i'd have to remark that one splash from a mud puddle used to foul the points and require a tune up. It burned oil after 40,000 miles due to lousy valve seals, and used at least 1 qt. of oil every 1500 miles....It was cramped with poor seats , and that vapor from the upholstery caused a film on the inside of the windows that was real hard to wipe off. Other than that, its only saving grace was exactly what it was marketed for...good gas mileage.

Steven, it sounds like you got the rare lemon in the Datsun 1200 world. You're the only 1200 owner I've ever heard have a low "basic transportation" opinion of this outstanding vehicle.

i dont think so...every 1200 I ever saw had ripped seats and the owners said relatively similar things. Maybe first owners are more picky, and way less tolerant. Open in new window
