later removal of the Hitachi SU's and fitment of sidedrafts

Unless you already have the sidedraughts, why don't you rather look for a set of Toyota 20V throttles, and fit those, along with management.

Never any worries about adjustments going out anymore, and full control over fuel delivery.

Heck, a complete Toyota 20V engine costs less than one 40 sidedraught Weber, might as well buy the engine, take the throttles of and chuck the engine. Or sell it and make back some money... Like that you even get a set of injectors with...

Anybody with a lathe & enough sense to use it can lighten valves. The trick is not to overdo it.

The work on my cylinder head was not 'radical' by any means, but still set me back $1,700 Au. I think that I paid a fair price for what was actually done.

Well, as mentioned.
I am doing research so I am open to quite alot of suggestions.

Dodgeman.
I will look into the A15 valve thing. I think it will anyway be a cheaper option. Just finding the right person to do the job is the problem. The A15 valve story was anyway my first option that time you send me a email with the stuff that was done to your cylinder head (I still have that email )
The BMW thing just sounds so tempting and I have someone that have done it before.

Just got ringed by Nissan. Damn it, I never thought a oil pump will cost that much.

Nevermind the oil pump. I almost fell of my chair. I tought Datsuns were suppose to be cheap. Building the A12 up to a performance engine will cost me twice as much as buying a A15 motor and throwing that in.
I can basically buy a A15 motor (standard) and a 5 speed and throw it in.
But then, it will not be original anymore.
Maybe I must keep it for now standard and wait until it breaks and then do what I want to do.
I have the money, but damn it. It is so expensive.

Get the A15, and throw it in. With the money you have left over, I could probably get you a decent performance camshaft from Lamco...

Forgot to mention.
BMW intake valves = 40mm
BMW exhaust valves = 37mm

I think this might be a little big for a A12 engine.

Thanks for the suggestion kulula.
I am still thinking what to do.

Lamco cams..... thats a big no no, they are has beens. I bought a 276 cam there and it was a mess. Want a Good Cam go to cam shaft dynamics in Jhb. They charge R550 with a cam. And you can buy a decent secondhand cam from A1 bakkie spares in VaderHoff weg in PTA for R150.

Hey 8500 rpm is quite alot on normal Sub assembly. Not impossible but a 276 will not be up to the task :P

Clive, I suggest you go buy the CAR magazine, and read the top of the left most column on page 122, and continue to read about how great the engine is that he built for that car(It's a V6 Ford Essex for a Cortina Perana replica that is run in a historic racing series, for those of you unable to buy said magazine). The guy known as "Lammies" is the owner of Lamco Developments. He's been doing camshafts since before Camshaft Dynamics even thought of setting up shop, and have been around the bush many times. I know, we quoted Camshaft Dynamics on their grinder when they wanted to set up shop... If you have to, at least point people to Richie Jute, they also have a wealth of knowledge when it comes to this subject, that dates back many decades.

It is a mistake is to even think of grinding a decent cam from a secondhand donor cam. The best cams are ground from billets, that way the cam can be ground so that the lifters, cam followers and rockers operate in their normal positions where they were designed to work. Otherwise you end up with premature failure on said parts.

The mistake was probably not to install the cam according to their instructions. They normally give instructions on valve clearances and suggestions on ignition timing with every cam they put out. If these weren't followed you would most probably have problems.

I would put any cam they ground into any of my cars, any day.
