Whilst cleaning the carbureator with the engine running (as advised by a mechanic friend) my poor Datto caught fire. Luckily, the only things damaged were a few wires (now repaired) and my throttle cable, which is now melted to itself. The dilema I am now faced with, is finding and/or fixing the throttle cable. So far all of the places i've checked with in Phoenix, AZ tell me that this item has be discontinued. A friend of mine has given me some standard throttle cable. Will this work? What are my options?

What method were you using to clean the carb?
Most use a spray can of carb cleaner, then bring the revs up to about 2,000, then spray into the throat of the carb.

The outside is cleaned with the engine off.

That's what we did. The reason it caught fire was because the carb had a bad rubber seal that allowed fluid to leak to the outside. What I really need help on is the throttle cable.

Have you tried the local u-pull-it wreckers?

I was scrounging parts for moving my battery into the trunk last Sunday. There was a '79 210 in the Foster U-Pull-It in Portland. Can't remember if the cable was there though...

I called a few salvage yards including an all Nissan and Toyota yard and one that I got my rear end and passenger window from. No dice. Ive been trying to think of ways to fix the existing cable, or modifying the other peice of cable I have to make it work; but i'm not sure how. It sucks how a 20 dollar part can keep me from driving for a few days.
