Is your front apron second hand or just new aftermarket?

Seems like there are a lot of expert panel beaters on this site , Any new panel needs finessing to fit whether it be ford holden Datsun taiwanese replica's . I have fitted all of these so called" crap " panels to my car & could not be happier they all went pretty much straight on and then started alinging them if you speak to any panel shop they will inform you of filler and all sorts of nasties that are present on new cars to get rid of creases in factory pressing as metal will only bend in so many ways before it creases etc, I personally have no problem with filler just the way it gets applied , so to all the opinionated experts with time on their hands to openly bag someone give it to a professional and they will show you how its done , because as an accountant I make a bloody good Truck driver.

P.S The panels are fine just work with them or your alternative is to buy some old ####ters and spend hundreds of dollars of your time fixing large dents rust etc so if there are some creases smooth them out .

Nick.

By the sounds of it you should also be a comedian!!!

I gave my panels to my panelbeater and he was also suprised with the condition of them. And i work for a holden dealership and the repo holden panels that we get are nothin like these.. Im not saying they are CRAP. im just sayin that they are not just a paint and bolt on affair as most ppl think they are.. i think they are good for the money and i will definately be using mine!

well theres another one for me a comedian and from a parts interpreter who SELLS panels and your mate fits them don't you know the oldest trick in the book when you take a job to someone be it a tradesman the words "mate needs a lot of work not gonna be easy lots of man hours in this one anyway like I said all panels need fitting and aligning if all panels were a paint and bolt on affair who would need these specialist places called panel shops . You very much misunderstand my intent it is that if you get a panel that was not from your car originally and take one from another it will need to be realigned you would be amazed at the brute force of a 4x2 and a mallet can do for panel gaps and if a panel sits too high , knock it down if your bonnet is too low bend the hinges . I like the comedian bit anyway people often think I am very warped but funny in a wierd way must be old age hey ! it matches the grey hair.

I think everyone that replied was just trying to inform bundy that there is a lot of work involved. You're right, I've used both originals and repro and both need work. At least with repro you don't get rust!

But as I said, there are common issues with the repro panels that are handy to know. If you know what you're getting into you can prepare for it. It's fantastic that there are still companies out there making panels for our beloved datto's, shame on Nissan!

You never know in the bush Wardy, what about the beloved barn finds. That pristine 1200 ute shell might just be sitting under a tarp in your neighbours shed!

Almost forgot, bundy, let us know how your panels line up, would be quite interesting to see. Good luck champ!

Will do champ, Now I am starting to wish I got a front right guard as well but never mind. When they arrive I will run the tape over em and compare them to the origional (or are they) panels. I will post my findings and pic when they arrive. WATCH THIS SPACE.

Oh and thanks everyone for their comments, it just comfirmed my belief that there is no such thing as a "BOLT ON REPLACEMENT" That gives me an Idea for a new thread.

The only thing about the cars here in the bush is that most of the old folk who have owned them since new have got themselves a new car, and the datto is sitting outside in the weather in the paddock!! Thare are those PRISTINE ones layin around down here in the sticks but they want both kidneys for them!! not one but both

Yeah keep us posted bundy, will be interesting how they measure up. Im waitin on my guards and bonnet to, so once they turn up ill measure them up too.
