I'm trying to get my daily driver (79 b310 a14) running. i just put a new weber 32/36 on it but havent got it completely buttoned up yet. I had to remove the EGR valve to get the weber on and I asked earlier what I should do about the egr. I got 3 responses all telling me to remove it or put a backing plate on it. However, I've read that you should take the whole emissions system out if youre going to do it, because just putting on a backing plate will make it run bad cause further problems down the road. What should I do? Keep in mind I need my car to run and I dont have a lot of money to spend.

well you might be able to carefully remove the egr valve and plug the vacuum line, disturbing the rest of the system as little as possible. it's the other things in the system that make it run crappy.

i removed mine and put a backing plate on.

simply be insalling the weber you have nullified the emissions system. I'd take it all off.

PCV is a good thing ( other than making deposits in the intake )

I had a lot of trouble with the 32/36 weber, i really tried, all the ones i got had 'problems' none were 'new'

Switced to propane, got a new fuel system and everything works great. Still working on fuel economy, struggling to get as good street milage as the weber, but that's normal.

Having instruments like o2 sensor and EGT are very helpful, I actually was able to get a good tune on the highway with a long hill about 4 passes and i had it dialed in butt dyno and EGT output verified, it's nice to have tuning respond, that was the problem with the weber is weird non linear results, strangely, gave it to some kid, he slapped it on his toyata truck and it worked fine, no rejetting... i think 30 year old ones have leaks and wear that are bad for engines at the very edge of the webers spec...

good luck...

i'd say lets develop TBI system for A Series and give up on carbs forever!
we just need an easy way to trigger the one injector, and away we go... megasquirt? i got a ga16 TB on my A15 now already, but used to throttle a propane mixer. this would allow me to use direct gas injection too! so Crank positions sensors?
