I was taught that the near side is the side nearest the curb [when legally parked] & of course the off side is the opposite side.

This means that near side & offside are not left or right as it would differ in right drive countries from left drive countries.

Thats just what I was taught.

when you're facing down the pitch, the offside will be on the right if you're right handed, and left if you're left handed, see this diagram:

WOW, I just read this thread and there is some serious cat fighting, name calling, digging up the past going on. I have never responded to this stuff before but I thought what the hell.
