Need a Ignition Switch with KEY for my 1200 "72" got the car for free but no Key.
Don`t want to cut wire to see if it runs, would also be nice to turn the steering wheel (locking). I can wire a stereo, but I can`t hot wire a car

i had a similar prob...

my ing switch was broken but i could not find a wreckers or anyone that could get me one...

i took it to a local MECH and now its fine as.... i wonder if you took proof of ownership to a locksmith they might be able to do something with cutting u a new key.... NOT SURE

cut a groove in the ignition barrel screws, the ones holding it to the steering column then take the thing off and take it to a locksmith

they should be able to make you up a key....my brothers done this a few times with the door locks

Chances are, if it's like my original 1200 switch, it's pretty worn out. You might try using any old keys you have laying around. My car starts with most any early GM key.

The easiest thing to do is remove the whole ignition barrel, use a pin punch to remove the shear bolts ( like a chissel).
Take the whole thing to a locksmith 20 bucks should cover it, next go to a car sparky and get him to order a new switch quite a common part and available as a aftermarket switch.
Alot of people confuse the ignition barrel and the ignition switch they are different parts that do a different job although connected

I used a little pair of scissors on my KB10, kept them on the keyring for years, they unlocked the door and started the ignition.

Thanks for all the little tricks. I was able to take off the complete assy. so now at least I can turn the wheel, and I am going to a locksmith today to see what they can do for me. I do have a few GM keys, and a few pair of small scissors, that is if no one will make me a new key. Thanks again
