Hi guys Im in the process of fitting new bigger brakes to my 1200. I have to make new front hubs to fit them. they are 12" vented 30mm thick with nice light allot twin spots . The same as what they run on the new SS commodores Nice and cheep too. For the rear I have 11" solids with single piston alloy calipers I cant wait to get it all fitted up they look huge. Ill post some pics when fitted. only hard part is goign to be getting the rear handbrake to work properly Im sure Ill figure it out somehow.
Cheers Andrew
Its funny the discs are the same size as the standard rims on a 1200 !!

15x7 front 195/50/15 and 15x8 rear 235/50/15 will be running formula R radial slicks. I still have quite a bit of money to save as I have to buy a new ECU and radiator tailshaft ect ect. Give me 12 -18 mnths it will be on the road bigger and better than before.

This is going into the CA18det powered coupe im slowly rebuilding it.
I sold most of it to do Micheals conversion into his coupe.
Im unsure what size master cylinder I will end up running. I will be using comodore stud patern front and rear saves a lot of machine work and rims are a lot easier to get hold of.
What kind of rear end do you have in your datto and how did you mount the comoodore callipers to the rear? handbrake setup??
Cheers Andrew

The brakes sound pretty cool.

Get a Commo diff like me!! It's pretty cool. I can produce a photo journal of what's required. I took plenty of photos of that conversion.

I got a quote for the paint on the weekend $6500! He'll paint inside, outside and underneath. Argh..It better turn out good. The painter guy is the preferred painter for the Sydney Mustang club. He likes Datsuns too..

He doesn't want to paint it the original green. So I've got to go up to his shop and look over some new colours. He said theres a new additive on the market that makes the paint look like it's got diamonds in it (Apparently). He said that it would take 6 weeks to paint. Which I think is very good.

Hmmm i migth even do that yet although i have the H190 (alloy center 4.625:1)in shed striped down ready for brakes and axle maching for new stud patern ect. Talk about a nightmare trying to get the old brakes off the axles I ended up getting them with the trusty gas axe.
The track is spoton how much did you have to shorten your diff to make it fit and also are there many ratios to chose from?? Im after a 4.4 or 4.1:1 preferably LSD
Andrew

PS: I cant wait to see your sedan once its all painted should be smick

You are right about the ratios..I don't know really. I'm happy with the 3.45 ratio for cruisin. The B&W are generally smaller. The Commodores have a B&W and a Salisbury (Bigger) diff. I think both have the same rear disks. The caliper mount plates bolt to the end of the housing, but they've got a complex deal for the handbrake. I had to swap backing plates side for side and elongate holes and redrill the holes in the handbrake drumbrake pads, to get it all working. It wasn't that easy ...now that I think about it. It took a few weekends to do. I only had to shorten one of the axles.

I've got a cool looking chromed diff cover plate. It hangs out from underneath the back of the car nicely.

Hey has any one tried the skyline diff? its the same as the commodore diff in as much as they come in 28 spline 4 pinion and 3.89 or 4.11 gears and they are same stud pattern as the 1200, the only down side I guess is the brakes arnt as big as the commodore ones, but they are disc.

Hey Andrew have you ever had a h165 diff behind your ca18?
I wonder how much punishment they would take?

Hey chris I migth come down and check your diff out one day when im closer to doing it all if you dont mind.
As for the h165 I have never had one in my coupe I doubt they would handle the A14 race engine for long and with the CA18 forget it. Mind you its probably got a bit to do with my driving style i remember the last datnet cruise laying sets down the freeway at 100+ just loading up in 4th and nailing it was lots of fun.
