i need a mechanic.
i have an eletrical problem with my ute. i think its something between the battery and the start motor because when i directly connect the start motor to the battery. it works but once i put it back in (i can whip it out in about five mins now haha) it throws in but will not crank the engine over. yes the battery is charged anyway im in the chirnside park area and i was wondering if anyway can suggest a good mobile mechanic. for this friday thanks for your time chris

I had a similar problem with mine a while back, turned out to be the carby, had to rebuild it (float was stuffed).
Have you got a spare carby? If you do whack it on and give it a bash.

im not sure about the spare carbie. i've got three spare engines (a14 and that boat ankor)
i'll check tomorrow night. how much notice do these mechaincs normally need?

Starter not turning engine can be two things (assuming battery is good).
1. Bad earth connection. The starter gets its connection to the negative battery terminal via the chassis. Try running a thick wire or earth strap from the battery negative terminal straight to the mounting bolt on the starter. 2. Worn commutators inside the starter. While the starter may seem to run fine with no load against it, it may have worn electrical contacts inside that can't pass enough current to turn it under load. Fixing # 1 is easy and cheap. Fixing # 2 means a starter rebuild by an auto sparky. I've bought a starter from a wrecker which he tested on a battery only to find it wouldn't start my car and had to do the rebuild. Good luck!

phew nothing major. just the ignition barrel is old and if you turn it till it stops its misses the point to crank it over.
how would a set of 1200/1300 motor bike carb's go on a A12? (good excuse to play with a tig welder if you ask me)

Motorbike carbs are a cheap (if you can make your own manifold) alternative, and they work really well. I run a set on my race car and my mate has a set on his road car.
They are really responsive and don't choke the engine at high revs. Just have to open the main jets right up and play around with the height of the needles to get them to give a good A/F mix right through the rev range.

i was thinking that you could porbably run a motor bike muffler too?
but wouldnt they be for a higher volicity exhaust speed? has anyone droped a say a hayabusa engine into a 1200 ute? or would the engine not has as much torque because of its shorter stroke? You can view topic.
