I've pulled down a h165 as far as I can go. Axels are out, cover plate off, pair of saddles removed to expose bearings. The problem now is removing the large retaining nut so that I can remove the center. A member here will buy the center from me if I can only get it out !!! Any help would be great. Cheers

Rattle guns r ok 4 doing up just a bit tighter 2 undo, I,ve done a few diffs ,here,s what you do. Get a set of ramps reverse the beast up there so it,s ass is off the ground, now climb under there with the right size socket {at least half inch drive!!!} make sure it,s in gear with hand brake on,now slide a length of pipe over socket bar handle and yank it in the direction of undoing it,ll be tuff u just gotta hang in there!!!! Note THE LONGER THE piece of PIPE and the HIGHER the car off the ground the easier the job will be... So if you know somebody with a hoist that,s the go!!!! So what r u replacing it with??

I use a piece on angle iron with 2 bolts welded to it to suit the diff flange.
Bolt your new diff tool to the diff flange. Socket on the retaining nut & away you go.

with the axles out, rear cover off, and bearing caps off, the diff centre simply comes out the back. You'll have to lever it a bit...
you guys must be talking about the pinion flange nut? Which shouldn't be a problem for a decent rattle gun with good air pressure. but you don't need to undo that to get the centre out.

Quote: but you don't need to undo that to get the centre out. But if he wants the gears he does.

Just trying to remove the confusion about getting the centre out - its ready to pull out now from what shirley said. removing the large nut on the pinion flange won't help get the centre out, which is what they're struggling with.

Thanks Harry,I've gently levered out the large center. Now all that remains is to make up the angle iron diff removal tool thing and find some long pipe. Thanks all for your help, you've made the impossible possible. That's so cool. http://datsun1200.com/modules/myalbum/photo.php?lid=13050
