A bit more research suggests that the 120y was fitted with a stroked /bored L20b to a 2.4L thumper.

What, saying the magic word on national tv during the 1983 Bathurst race. Goes like this.
Channel 7 commentator - "lets cross now to our in car mic & talk to George Fury.George, can you hear me? George - silence, is following another car & trying to get past it coming over Skyline. Channel 7 commentator - Hullo George it's 'Fatboy' from channel 7 here, how are things going?George - still doesn't say anything, this other car is giving him a hard time getting past, he's just coming down to Forrests Elbow & is thinking of going down the inside.Channel 7 commentator - 'Well George obviously can't hear us' George - 'Fuckin Bastard' as the other car cuts him off & nearly runs him into the banking on the inside. Channel 7 commentator - 'Well George is a bit busy so we'll find somebody else to annoy!'

This is one Racecam moment that won't make it to the best of DVD, I can assure you.

I spoke to Feral Errol today, who informs me that he was under the impression that the 120y was powered by a hot FJ24. the car was built and owned by the ex Datsun works team suspension guru.

Georges 120Y was owned by Jamie Drummond (ex nissan suspension guru, now Drummond motor sport or DMS). To the best of my knowledge it was built specifically for George to win The Alpine Rally. It was an absolute work of art because of Jamies and Georges attention to detail.Saw these guys change a clunky rear end in under 10 minutes at a roadside service which meant pulling complete rear end out, replacing rear end ,bleeding brakes etc. This was done at 10 at night in the dark.
The old diff was rebuilt that night and back in Bright 6 am next dayas the spare.
While we are on the topic of legends whatever happened to Murray Cootes mid engined 1200 coupe ?

I may be incorrect but I think Murry's 120Y lives at Peter Glenny's place.
