A cam will let you make more power up from 5000rpm to 7500-8000rpm How much power that is variable probably between 20-35hp but you will need to have your lifters reradiused which means you may have to remove the sump to get the lifters out and you will also need new competition valve springs too

Don't sell the A series short
They last with boost very well

Rarely do they see a failure of any of the factory components

He broke things himself
Not a fault of the components
User error maybe

Hahaha... sorry Michael

I'll rephrase
Boost too much on a stock old engine thats not built properly it will break
Boost a built engine with the right pistons and fuel supply and it should last

Depends on the tune & boost level. The pistons aren't really designed for it, but they will cope ok as long as you dont get too power hungry on the tune.

BTW: if you are planning to boost an A series on a budget, the A14 is the engine of choice. I considered going back to A14 from A15. The A 14 can take E15ET pistons without too many mods, giving you 7.5:1 compression and plenty of valve clearance. In the A-15 the E15ET pistons come 3.5mm out of the top of the deck (A14 is only 1or 1.5mm which is easy enough to get around)

The other bonus of A14 is that if you increase the comp for NA by shaving the head, it won't cause you too many problems when you go to boost because the bowls in the E15ET piston are huge (23.5mm)

Injection all the way. !!!!
I would suggest for the A15, to leave the cam if your on a budget, as on the a series you have to pull the motor appart (not just the head) leave that for when you do a full rebuild inc pistons etc. Go with some nice fine tunning like said below, electronic fan, electronic fuel pump, electronic dizzy and max air flow. then start on the head work like a gasket match for the inlet and exhaust. This opens the doors for some nice mods, like larger valves, double springs etc
