early model ca's

hey guys i just recently purcished a ca turbo for next to nothing but it is and early model one with the 8 intake ports i was just wondering if any guys here have done the conversion with this type of ca and what sort of intercooler was used also do guys see any advantage over this type of ca or the later one.

as far as i know, the uk was the only place that got the 4 intake port ca18

anyway, you're fine, so go ahead

ahh well i was readin some where that there was an ca with a 8port inlet manifold with help reduce boost lag which is the one i have but the throttle body is located across the rocer cover not olong the side of it like most of the ones u guys r using

If thats the case mate then u have urself a FWD CA... apart from the inlet manifold there are a few other issues with them ( from memory ) maybe someone else can shed some light for u

Yeah a mate of mine got an early FWD CA for cheap too. I think that besides the manifolds, they are pretty much same.
However, Ive heard that the early CA's don't have the crank girdle. So if you were hoping to build a mega horsepower engine, (Why wouldn't you be!) an ungirlded engine isn't the way to go.

yerr, first CA18et are single cam. CA18det are DOHC, early model CA18det have no oil cooler, CA18de out of FWD exa or RWD silvia, has no girdle, no oil squirters, other differences i have noticed, FWD, fuel rail, injectors, plenum, thermostat housing are different, and all the engine mounts. the flywheel and clutch are smaller on the fwd CA. other than that they are the same, it's easier to look for a stuffed CA18de out of a silvia and swap every over, i too have a CA18de out of an exa, that i picked up cheap. that's going in the sedan
