What sway bar to use with CA18?

g'day guys,

I was just wondering what swaybays people are using with their CA conversions. At the moment I have some custom jobby in there and it doesn't really seem up to the task (see below). Does a stock one still fit or even 120y? Do whiteline etc do anything that would fit?

It really felt like a boat just as I turned in towards the apex!

Whiteline do 20mm swaybar for around $200,
So personally id search for a 120y sway bar also 20mm at 1/4 of the price
Add a set of superpro bushes and off you go

Are you sure that they clear the CA sump though?

When you say 'felt like a boat'- exactly what do you mean?- was it pushing in the front, rolling around, hiking an inside front wheel...?
Are you sure that it is a sway bar problem and not a sring rate or geometery issue?
At the end of the day you have installed a motor and related bits that are quite a bit heavier than what the car was originally designed for and unless you have several carefully thought out changes you may well be best to start asking someone who has been there and done it well for advice on setup before charghing in and spending up on something that is only a fine tuning device. ( CA18DET man would be a good place to start )
Cheers
Dave

What do you think I'm asking questions on public forum for?

Anyway, I'm using 225lb/inch spring coilovers using 240z kyb inserts. They are cut down stanza struts. The car is quite stiff on the front corners but has an unexplained amount of body roll through the corners. I'm quite happy with the feel and grip through corners but surely there is some time to be had by keeping the body a bit flatter through the turns.

What sort of geometry issues may also cause excessive body roll?

Rear setup, could be afactor

brake bais can also cause this

weight transfer, how balanced is the car ??

there is a lot that can cause it or just contribute as a combination of areas might cause this result.

Public forum- good for you but be aware that you are entering into a specialised field hence the advice to ask someone who has been there and done it well with that setup . In my experience there are too many so called experts only too keen to relieve you of your hard earned cash.
Anyway I would have thought that your spring rates up front were okay. What have you done with your rear springs because if they are standard that may explain things?
Sounds like the front end is working okay if you are happy with the turn in.
What about ride height- the car does look reasonably high in the photos.Lowering it may not stop the body roll but it may feel nicer and at the end of the day will be more stable through the turns.
Lowering the drivers seat right down helps to make things feel better too.
Steering geometrey influencing body roll- no it wouldn't. The reason that I asked the question was that you were somewhat vague in your explaination of your problem.
Looking at the photo if the turn pictured was the worst example on the track then apart from the ride height it doesn't look too bad. Sometimes its not a bad thing to have them moving around rather than so ridig that they become really skittery.
Good luck and lets hear how you get on.

Rear shocks are koni reds with reset leaves with a leaf added. No rear swaybar but from reading, many don't think they are necessary.

The car balance would be very nose heavy like any CA conversion. Brake balance is definitely not the problem. I've got about 3 degrees of negative camber on the front and it turns in really well with no understeer at any stage through the corners.

It's also got a minispool diff which should encourage understeer but it's really quite neutral.

B110 SSS - point taken about public forums but I am appropriately qualified to filter through the rubbish.

The ride height is actually quite low
