Fair point beattie - is there a big motorkhana scene in WA.

It's not fantastic in Melb but there is at least one khana a month here - my 12yr competes in them and I give them a go as well.

Guess we're a little spoilt in Melb with 4 racetracks and a fair few hillclimbs.

That's another point - there could be a few hillclimb tracks there in WA too....as they were saying in that msn article after they added up all the money from fine the n00bs could have gone racing for a whole year of track fees.

Yeh there is the supersprint group that do track days and hill climbs etc. But it is never advertised to the public. Once the 1000 is up and running properly and i sort out all its little problems im going to look into attending some meats. I live 10mins from Barbagellos and another hill climb so i really have no excuse...

25+ years ago I rode my old RD350 like a total moron and we of course we're also known to roar down gravel roads on the out skirts of town in mum's pinto but street race eeeeeee, just bad karma.

As said between import drags (every Friday night here) 18 autocrosses,4 rallycrosses, 1 rally and 6 track days..............not much exscuse for it but it seems to be a life style choice. From time to time a get a street racer as a student at a track day............they start out all cocky and then quickly learn, they have a lot to learn........happily most of them quickly figure out the track is way more fun.

Reminds me of a funny story I used to race a R32 Skyline (although that's not the funny part) and this guy I knew raced his VN Commodore - he thought he was pretty top #### had spend a bunch on suspension, brakes etc....

Turned up to my first time ever round Sandown and him and about 7 of his mates were just giving me piles of #### (and had done for weeks leading up to the event).

In the 3rd session I put out a faster time than him, and every lap from then on was about 0,2 sec faster than the last....he ended up going off at the end of the main straight, then again at the bottom of the hill of the back.

His mates were pretty quiet after that....but I remember being fairly vocal.

He was a self proclaimed top street racer...

it's always seemed to me with the street racers that they didn't want to to go to the tracks because they had to conform to rules, like you couldn't do doughnuts in the braking area after a run, or the car actually had to be safe to race.
the first example is from Castlereagh back in the early eighties, when i helped a friend run a modified. the Falcon decide to celebrate his win by some doughnuts. As he was thrown out of the event i doubt he ever went back to the track, just kept street racing. The other time was when i was in the staging lanes at Eastern Creek & 2 of the security guards fronted a guy near me, who had been banned from the track for doing burnouts out the front gate. I doubt he was going to do his racing on the track either.

They only problem with writing off your car, is if you 'write' yourself off in the process.....
