I just got a (im pretty sure) 71 coupe. Its one of those backyard finds, been sitting for like 15+ years, it looks all intact, but I dont know if it runs.... I havent even touched it yet, I always have a couple cars I'm messing with. But this seems like a good place to start. My other cars include a 88 starion ESI-R, an 88 RX-7, and a 12 second all motor honda. Oh, and wifey drives the CR-V. :) Any good suggestions where to start?? I'm pretty excited about this car.

First thing is to let people know where you are from. That way anyone local can help you more than some one in another country.
Have a look in the tech section for ideas on upgrades and conversions that you might be able to do. The photo album might give you a few ideas also.

Now that you have found the Datsun, the best place to start will be the classifieds in the paper. "For Sale, 88 Starion ESI-R, '88 RX-7 & Honda special"
After all, now that you have the Datsun, you need nothing else.

Seriously, what do you have in mind for this car, restoration, improved street car, radical street car, racer, show car?
You will find a lot of help on this site, but just be patient & you will soon realise that old Datsuns are the right car for today.

Sorry for the off-topic but.....

Has anyone else heard the story (myth?) behind how the Starion got it's name.

What I heard was that it was supposed to be called a Stallion (as in a male horse), but the Japanese pronunciation resulted in it being called a Starion

When the Starion was new, I got a service bulletin from Mitsubishi that explained that it was to be pronounced Star-Ryan. [rather than Starryon I presumed, which is what everyone calls it anyway].

Wasn't the smaller 2 door called the Mitsubishi Colt?

I dont know how its meant to be pronounced, but I do know that if you contact r-o-d-g-e-r he can help make it beat wrx's and evo's down the quater!

But seriously, welcome to the club mate. What do you want to use it for? the 1200 is a pretty versatile thing that you should really enjoy!

The starion is definitly not for sale. It's really a cool car. As for my new datsun, (which i am liking more and more every day) I'm thinking just really clean and original looking, with all "old school" stuff, maybe a set of Mikunis or something, header/exaust and maybe not too much more than that. But I've said that about alot of cars I've owned!! Oh, BTW, I'm in Southern California. Thanks for the warm welcome.Quote:

The Datsun is a very simple car to work on, and I would recommend getting a shop manual from ebay to get started.
