For the idle problem, try removing the throttle cable from the carb first, then do your idle adjustments. If the idle comes back properly, then you have a throttle control/sable that will not let the shaft rotate back far enough & that would need to be addressed.
If it still does not come back, try gently rotating the shaft back with your hand. If the carb is still cruddy, it's possible that the last tiny bit of shaft rotation is prevented by some varnish or other buildup. Make sure that the 'idle kicker' cam that is part of the choke mechanism is fully returned to it's at-rest position as this will also give you this symptom if it is not. Once you have got it all right again, reconnect the throttle control/cable & ensure that you have full & free movement of the throttle. Happy motoring.

On a couple occasions I've looked at my stock 1000 rear springs and I couldn't imagine it working. But then I figured that the other two leafs would still curve the main spring abit. Yeah - I had wondered.
Aiden (aka "Dat141") told me about how he did this on his 1200 sedan and might be a good source of info for for anybody wanting to do this mod. You can view topic.
